“Good hostel!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2013

It is a good hostel,
the kitchen it is big with a lot of tables and it is cleaned every day by nice girls.
The hostel is not so far from the center, you can walk everywhere or take a tram.
The price is not so cheap, but we are in Sweden, so it is normal to pay for the sheets..

We have been to the Backpackers Hostel, (an other name of the same hostel of youth hostel) in the period of the culture festival (half august) for free days; the hostel is very close to the Main Avenue, in the downtown (15 minutes walk).
We slept in a dormitory with other 14 guys, but everyone was very respectful. You can find an outlet with a little bag and lamp-shades in the bed; in fact a curtain along the bed divides your sleep with the rest of the dormitory. So you can read a book, or use the pc if you want (the wifi works very well) while you are lying in the bed.
You have a very spacious drawer under the bed, where you can put in two little-bags if it's necessary. There are 6 toilet and each of their have a shower, a very wide kitchen with everything you need to cook and three computers.
Every room, including the dormitory is very clean and the furniture seem to follow the IKEA style. There's only one and important problem in my opinion: IT'S TOO BORING!
Sweden is not famous to be a country like Spain, I know it, but the hostel atmosphere (which is called backpackers/youth) it's too cold. There weren't parties or something of similar, the staff is a kind of ghost in the hostel, socialize is almost impossible.
So I can recommend it for visit the city quietly, for a safe and clean hostel..but

Positive points: free wifi and internet computer, there are supermarkets near, quiet neighborhood and hostel
Negative points: no free towel or sheets, there is no lavabo in single room, far from train station(40 min by foot, 12 min by tram), there is a clean room tax(you don’t have to pay if you clean the room).
In general is a good place to stay in Gothenburg

Slottsskogens hostel is split between two buildings across Vegagatan. Last year, only the one was fully modernised: bright, white, clean and basic, but work appears to be under way on the reception and breakfast room side. This was a return visit, again to the fully modernised side. A two-person room is decidedly snug and not much cheaper at 540SEK per person than some of the hotels, but a communal kitchen makes staying there cheap for eating - a supermarket is less than five minutes' gentle amble away. Beds are soft and springy - bring your own linen, or hire it for 65SEK.

Breakfast at 70SEK is typically continental, with a wholefood basis: choice of meats, cheeses, pickled herrings, breads, cereals and eggs - a treat for me, at least. A lot of the stay at the hostel depends on guests adhering to the ethic of cleaning up after themselves, keeping quiet after 10pm, and living with the no alcohol and definitely no smoking rules. For those who think rules are mere guidelines, the no smoking one isn't. Our second stay was quiet and uneventful.

Hostel is not far from trams into the centre and 25-minutes' walk through Slottsskogen park from Frolundaborg ice rink, the object of our visit. Staff were very helpful and pleasant with advice on travel around Gothenburg, and sorted out a taxi for us for the airport.

This hostel was very good value for money. The location was good and central. I had a bunk bed in a dorm room and there was enough space in my locker for everything.. There is a communal kitchen with very good equipment. I asked for some information from the staff and they were very helpful. I will stay here again.

I slept there for only one night, therefore my impression is based on a very short stay.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. I booked two bed room per hostelworld and I traveled alone (then you have to book for two persons) - when I arrived, they gave me an available single room as they realized that I am only one person. Very nice. The small room was great anyway. It felt very good for just an simple hostel. At the end of the floor was a kitchen and small social room. There was a second social room close the the street which was very comfy.

I think you will have a good time in the Slottsskogens Youth Hostel - especially when you know other hostels around the world!

I have stayed in a wide range of hostels, all over Europe, and this one is just my favourite ! We paid 25€ per night, and this is nothing for Scandinavia. And 25€ for the quality we got, is really nothing.
Our dorm looked like a doll house: white wooden bunk beds, a table with a mirror and HAIRDRYER ( a very welcome luxury when you spend most of your time camping), each set of bunk beds had a large trunk with a locker, where you could store all your belongings.
the kitchen, THE KITCHEN , was just pure madness. High tech, vast, with two gigantic fridges, and enough cooking space for a group to be in the kitchen at the same time. there were computers as well as WIFI (all free) available. there were travel books, brochures and even novels left there for you to look at (or to exchange, in the case of novels).
we were travelling for a month so we did have our own linen and towels, so i cant comment on that.
there were several bathrooms each with shower, wc and wash basin , all in one room so you had some privacy to yourself.
the reception staff was uber friendly and gave us all the indications we needed to find cheap shops and the likes.
the location was ideal, near the Haga district. Although a tad far from the main station (it took us 40min walking with heavy backpacks to reach it). But it is close to the huge park , there are Lidle and other cheap shops around.

It was just PERFECT. oh and did I mention the amazing softness of the mattress??? I don't think I have ever slept that well in a hostel. I was just gutted we were only staying 2 nights. I would have happily spent a week there, considering what an amazing city Gothenburg is!
Next time I'm in town - cos I WILL come back - I am definitely staying at that hostel :D

In a nutshell: gold medal of European hostel 8)
