Owner description: Welcome to one of the largest botanical gardens in Northern Europe. The cultivated part occupies 40 acres and holds about 12 000 species. It is a botanical garden with a strong emphasis on horticulture and the garden is divided into different sections linked by lawns with fine trees and shrubs. You will find a kitchen garden, a herb garden, perennial and annual borders, a Japanese glade, a rhododendron valley and a stunning rock garden with a waterfall. In the bulb garden you find species that are not grown anywhere else. The Greenhouses have more than 4 000 species including a large collection of orchids and carnivorous plants. The Eastern Island tree, extinct in its natural locality, is preserved here. The garden is bordering a nature reserve where also the arboretum is located.

The botanical garden was not as well kept as we expected it to be. We noticed quite a few dead or dying plants and flowers. There is a wide variety of interesting plant life from different countries, but they were arranged so haphazardly we couldn't match the name of the plant to the plant inself. Since we visited in May, some plants were not fully grown and there were also empty patches of soil in the rock garden.

This gBotanical garden is really hard to give a simple description of.
The best thing to do is to visit and make your own description once you have been there.

Great collection of plants, all very well tended, in a beautifully arranged landscape. Definitely among the best botanical gardens we've visited world wide. (It took us two-and-a-half days to see it all properly -- but keep in mind, we're _serious_ plant enthusiasts.)

The restaurant gets extremely busy at weekends; finding a vacant and clean table isn't easy!

One of gothenburgs most lovely places. Here is something for everyone. If you only want to rest in a wonderful garden with your own picnic. (You could buy a simple meal in the restaurant but do not expect something fancy. ) Or if you wish your kids having a fun time in a playground. Or if you want to do a real botanical excursion and see a lot of rare flowers and trees up the hills. Or if you love to walk in the greenhouse. (The garden have one tree from the Easter iland.) You have to come here. The small shop is also a great place to visit. It has some very nice garden tools and quality souvenirs. The only problem is that it is a little bit too long for a pleasant walk from the tram station if you have any problem with walking.

This is a treasure in the city. Beautiful entrance of ever changing backdrop to the pond. It is free, or you can leave a donation. A very nice gift store at the entrance and a cafe/restaurant in the gardens. A large variety of native plants, a waterfall, perennial gardens, and japanese garden.
This garden was much bigger and better than I expected. Very peaceful and beautifully maintained.

Thank Liz M
