This is our second time here. We are a family of 8 that had 3 rooms. Our stay was in July 2008. www.jahtihovi.com
My husband and I stayed here before and liked the hotel, the location and if you are not there on a weekend, it is the cheapest restaurant to eat in in town, almost. This time it was the weekend so we had to look elsewhere.
Rooms are simple but clean and very serviceable. No refrig. Hot water and water pressure was fine. We did have a problem with one room. I had asked for a family room for 4 people and ended up with a double room with 2 cots squeezed in. Very crowded. I went and spoke to the front desk very nicely and they were very helpful. They were full that weekend but they did offer us an apartment for the same price. However since it was up by the main square, about a 10 minute walk, we declined it. I greatly appreciated that even tho we didn't take advantage of it.
They do have a public computer down in their little lobby which is free to use. They also have a little lounge area where you can sit and have a beer from the bar etc. They have a small diningroom where breakfast/dinner is served. Breakfast is included and again a Finnish breakfast with more than enough hot and cold food to eat. They also have a sauna. Will also do your laundry for 3 euros/load BUT no dryers so they have to dry on racks. Therefore, you need to be there for at least 2 nights to take advantage of this. Also, they don't do wash on weekends. But there are laundromats in town as well.
There is no elevator.
The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful at all times.
It was about a pleasant 10 minute walk to the main square and about the same to the waterfront where we took a cruise of the islands for 90 minutes. It was a pleasant cruise but again the weather wasn't cooperating.
The last time we were there it was in June. That is when Kuopio hosts the International Dance Festival. That is something to be a part of. People dance all over the town. On the streets, on the stage in the main square etc. We enjoyed it sooo much. This time in July they had their big International Wine Festival. Agentinian wines(great wines). We did not partake as to get in was very expensive then you still had to pay. Music, wine, food etc. From the sounds of it it was a big hit!
My husband and I like this little town also. You can walk everywhere. The old section of town is a nice place to walk to also. Also go to the Pujio Tower as well.
We totally enjoyed our stay and when we travel to Finland again, we will stay there again.
