"Family room" for four during a June weekend. The building looks more like a 1960s apartment building than a purpose-built hotel. Family room claustrophobic (16-18 m2) and clearly out of date. Air cooling (not real a/c) added quite recently, a welcome addition indeed. Otherwise furnishings past their sell-by date, incl. ancient tv. A cheap facelift not so long ago by a half-wall paintjob, probably in connection with a window replacement operation. 120e for a night was a bit too steep for this. Lots of noise from the street as well.

Food & breakfast good, but the restaurant not very functional when there are more guests around. The food saved the stay--pizza probably better than at the pizza joint down the road. The kitchen took its time (30 min from ordering, with about ten customers altogether) and we were surprised at not being offered the pizza menu at first, had to ask for it.

Location excellent for the castle. Easy parking.

We had booked a standard twin room including breakfast for 3 nights over the internet (€330 for 3 nights).

Having arrived by train, in the afternoon, it was an easy walk, slightly uphill to Pietari Kylliäinen taking about 10 minutes. Its a sort walk to the castle, museum and water as well.

Check in was not particularly friendly or gracious, but we survived. Check out was similar.

The hotel is best described as functional and is oldish and unrenovated, which sometimes is not a bad thing. There is an elevator serving all floors. There was an industrial, oily smell in the area around the elevator.

We were allocated room 401. Our room was a good size with windows overlooking the carpark. The window was openable.
There is a fridge in the room together with couch, desk and tv. The design of the room was not functional. For instance, the couch faced a blank wall. The double bed was pushed into a corner, about 300mm from the wall on the side of the bed and along the side wall, were 2 lights (with their cords dangling down) which would normally be at the bed head.
It was clean. Wifi is fast and free. The bed was comfortable.
The ensuite had underfloor heating and a drying rack. The shower was small and the hand basin was difficult to use as the glass shelf above it jutted too far over the basin.
Noise insulation does not work as we could easily hear other guests.

We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on our first evening, and it was satisfactory. Again not much grace from the waitress. The cost appeared to be the going rate for Savonlinna. Not great quality food and we did not go back.

The first morning we needed the shower gel to be replenished and the last day, our room was not tidied even though new foot mat had been put out. These did no duly affect us, except to provide indicators.

Breakfast was basic, and pretty average quality. Cordial-like juice, yogurt, fruit, cereal cheese, ham, tomato, breads and the usual unpalatable scrambled eggs, sausages or meatballs in the bain marie. Tea and coffee. There is enough there to provide a breakfast.

Presumably this hotel is comparable to others in Savonlinna. If so, Savonlinna has a problem.

This hotel is basic, and expensive for what we got, particularly as when we visited in early October, their season seemed to be over

It is difficult to find a room in Savonlinna during the opera season in July-early August. You have to be prepared to pay 120 euros for a very basic accommodation. However, I was satisfied in my stay in this hotel compared to other options in Savonlinna. The rooms are very small, especially the bathroom. If you travel alone, it is OK. Air condition works well. I wonder why many earlier reviewers say that no WiFi was available. It is, but you have ask the password from reception.Service staff is very helpful and competent. The location near Olavinlinna Castle is perfect for an opera festival customer.

The room was comfortable and clean. The male chef was very friendly and cooked us a great dinner one evening. His own home brew dark beer was terrific and was very much appreciated. The service is excellent with the friendly staff. The hotel also has air-conditioning that is OK, although not quite efficient enough. It helps, though. The rooms are small and lack an armchair but the small refrigerator is nice to have. We like the location - close to the railway station, market place and shops, and the Olavinlinna Castle.

This a high value hotel that offers decent, rather spartan accommodation for a night or two. The rooms are quite small, very reminiscent of my college dorm. But I was traveling solo, so lack of personal space wasn't an issue. Everything is clean, the beds reasonably comfortable. Breakfast buffet offers good, basic fare that is also a popular spot for locals. Few frills. No wifi. A rather steep charge for the sauna. But, just a few minutes downhill walk to the stunning St. Olaf's Castle, and museum. Many good restaurants on the matkasatama (harbor) not far away. Located on a busy street, but my room faced the rear car park away from traffic noise.

The hotel is named after a first known bailiff of st Olavs castle (Olavinlinna).
The Hotel is located near castle, there is about 5min walk to castle and in a small town there is no long walk anywhere - a market square is about ten to fifteen minutes walk away.
We have a theatre packet, cost for room was 37€/person, ticket to theatre was 28€ (65€ combined). Savonlinna theatre is just opposite side of road.
The hotel: our room was small, basic equipment - telephone, tv, hairdryer and fridge - no minibar. Aircon is adjustable in room. Internett access is available. A parking lot is located at backyard of hotel, in wintertime there is electricity for aux heating.
In a restaurant food quality was good, but waitress didn´t know quantatity of stock - we order mineral water - waitress said that they ran out of it, but later orders it was found. Overall service in restaurant and reception was ok. A breakfast is buffet style. Room was tidy. For extra: There is a bowling alley in downstairs (extra fee).
I think this is a good place for short stay,

A small hotel in a small town.
City wonderful and cozy.
Hotel. Good location. Free convenient parking.
The rooms are very small and contain only the essentials.
Breakfast is adequate without the frills but tasty and enjoyable.
I can recommend to stay for one night.
