“Good Quality Santa Trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 December 2008

Just returned from 5day/4 night Polar Magic Santa Ttrip holiday via Transun with two young daughters . Stopped at the Jussantupa Hotel. Only minor gripe was landing at Kiruna followed by a 3hr coach transfer- girls got to say that they visisted 2 countries and flight back was from local airport (apparently our 3hr transfer was a one off)
Anyhow hotel was very family friendly. Good bar with pool table small children's play area and free interent station & craft activities one afternoon.Don't think anyone used the pool/sauna but both available and seemed spotless .Contrary to the other review we found all the food to be of a good quality with separate adult & childrens' meals and extensive choice at breakfast. Rooms clean spacious and very warm -each had small xmas tree with lights and "candle arch" in windows to add to festival feel
Holiday activities were excellenet and all trips well planned and good fun. Temperatures went down to minus 27 though- silk balaclavas are supplied for snowmobile rides but would recommend children also take wool/fabric balacklavas aswell as the helmets supplied for them don't have visors wheras the adults do . Shops opposite also sell full range of clothes including hats/mittens etc but theseseemed pricey, although the exchange rate doesn't help
Small village with well stocked supermarket directly opposite(including small hot deli) and burger grill next door in pretty wood cabin should you need extra snacks no real need as hotel food very filling but always useful for extra drinks
Two minute walk to tobogan/slege slides down to the frozen lake.
Didn't go to snow castle but those who did rated it
The overall experience & value for money was very good and kids loved it.

Jussantupa Hotel, Hetta, Lapland. We travelled to Lapland with our daughter son in law and our 6 year old grandson on the 18th of December for a 4 day father Christmas experience.

Although the Hotel was nothing to get excited about (on par with a tired travel Lodge) at least it was warm and the activities were to be non stop.

With the weather unseasonally warm and hardly falling below zero there was very little snow during our visit.

However the food was by far the worst we have experienced anywhere in the World and was even below the standard that school dinners were reputedly serving prior to Jamie Olivers recent intervention.

Meals comprised of Chicken nuggets, Fishfingers, Frankfurter sausages non of which Little chef would not have been proud of. Sweets comprised of lemsip flavoured wallpaper paste and breakfast porridge was so salty as being totally unedible.

We were informed by the reps that this is what the travel agents in the UK and customers have asked for, "This was not the view of the guests we met in our stay".

We are informed by Transun that this is the standard of cuisene in Lapland.

From our observations Good quality raw ingrediants were readily available in the local supermaket ie Salmon, pork and Beef and the Hotel did have an al a carte menues for the Local Laplanders (what was served to the locals was of an international standard) but this was not part of the Transun deal thus leaving the Laplanders wondering what on earth we eat at home.

Personally I do not blame the Hotel but consider this is directly under the control of Transun contract team who set the standards. My advise is be aware you may starve if you stay more than a day. This was a very expensive holiday for costing £4000 and could not be classed as value for money and food quality could not have been worse even if they had tried.
