I had a very quick stay at VI Campground which was a really pleasant end to my vacation. I had only two days to fill before heading home and Deborah was accommodating in allowing a less than 3-night stay. Deborah and her daughter were helpful with pick-up/drop-off at the ferry dock and providing information about the island. The property is about a 5 minute walk from Limestone Beach, which is rocky, but had great snorkeling and is not used by many sunbathers (and no daytripers!). Honeymoon Beach is about 10 minutes' walk - maybe longer coming back since it's uphill. The island is quite hilly, so you need to be in fair shape to walk to/from the beaches. The cabins are really well designed. I was a little worried it would be hot at night to sleep, but there was a breeze and I didn't even need a fan. Nice sunrise view too. The only thing that took some getting used to was the walk to the bathroom/shower - there is no running water in the cabins themselves. Also, the critters come out at night, so don't linger too late at the table outside the cabin with food! I would definitely consider a return visit!

Room Tip: Some of the cabins are closer to the bathroom/shower than others. There are also a few on the oppos...

Thanks so much for your response...and the value would be ranked high if you had stayed 7 or more nights...sorry you could stay only 2 nights which is by far the most expensive stay at the Virgin Islands Campground..next time you will receive a 10% discount and hope you will be able to spend some time with us so we will have a higher ranking in "value"!!

It was nice hearing about your experience at Limestone...pretty private there and such good snorkeling...

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Deborah

Thanks first to Deb for providing such a serene environment for Cheree and myself to slow down and gain some much needed peace. If your even thinking about going ..... stop thinking and go...go...go. you'll love it. Everything from the campground to the locals to the beautiful environment of water island will make you feel at home. The night after we returned my son asked... Dad.. are you on some heavy duty pain medication or something? ... my response... No son ... just a wonderful vacation to Water Island! Just go and enjoy it for yourself!

This was a truly upscale and comfortable way to stay on the Virgin Islands. We're used to tent camping, so it was a nice change having screened in, private cabins that looked like they were decorated straight out of an Ikea catalog. Bathroom and showers all within close walking distance. My husband and I really enjoyed getting to know the other guests who were there during our week. So glad we chose this instead of a cruise. There are plenty of small lizards and we had a few mosquitoes, but you will find these all over the island no matter where you stay. Good place to explore and close enough for day trips to the other islands. Honeymoon Beach was really nice. Recommend heading over to St Johns for a day to see more beautiful beaches and old sugar plantation ruins. Can't wait to come back.

If you are independent and love to be on the earth but comfortable at the same time, this is the place for you. Think: Summer Camp. Great fellow campers met, fun events like movie night on the beach and just plain slowing down time and reading, swimming and exploring. If you need to shop, eat in restaurants and need to be entertained you can take a 10 minute ferry ride to town in St Thomas. We made the trip only once and that was to buy food for our meals which we shared at the common cooking area with other campers. The property is immaculately maintained. Deborah will pick you up at the dock when you arrive. One option we enjoyed was a 1/2 day sail/snorkel on a 38 foot sailboat. The beach is clean and great for families and the food concession is very good. Come, relax and let the wind and waves lull you to a very peaceful sleep!

Thanks so much for your review and thank you for mentioning Karl's sail boat excursion...every body loves that and it is so reasonable because he picks you up right here on the Water Island Ferry dock so there is no extra expense like ferry rides and taxi rides.

Remember you will receive a 10% discount when you return...

Overall this is a good place to stay. The campsite owners were pleasant and very helpful. The other guests were very friendly helping to make the stay worthwhile. The kitchen has everything needed. The suite was comfortable. Limestone beach (the closest beach to the campsite) had great snorkeling and was usually empty. Pizza Fridays and Movie Mondays are worthwhile. I would consider a day trip to St. Thomas optional, at best. St. John is a worthwhile daytrip.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review...we much appreciate that. I guess I didn't tell you about the toilets using grey water for flushing. Grey water in the tank is aerated and thus does not have an order. However, grey water in the tube coming up to the toilets cannot be aerated an can have a slight odor...I usually explain that during our "walk thru".. I'm sorry I missed that point with you all.

Anyway, sounds like you had a great stay, and we are very glad about that. Remember your 10% discount when you return.

Sincerely,

Deborah

We have stayed in a large number of places in both the USVI and the British VI. We are not a family with a 6 year old daughter, and we were looking for a fun place to come and bring a friend or two.

The campgrounds was a great place to stay - very friendly staff (Paul is AWESOME!) and we enjoyed their kitchen area as both a communal food-prep and nice place to hang out. They have two refrigerators for keeping visitor's food cold, and one of them was not working very well. Their toilets are very-low-water-usage toilets, and so can have a certain odor to them -- that was our least favorite part of the campgrounds. Otherwise, it was great facilities, great staff, and a wonderful location.

The owners were great, the place was very very clean, both the common and private quarters. Everyone who was staying there seemed nice and open with information.
The place is very interesting, not exactly a hotel, not exactly camping, not exactly a hostel, but the owners seemed to have taken the best elements from each of these ideas and combined them into a eco-friendly, relaxed environment where everyone feels "at home" and a place you probably won't want to leave.
We had big plans to do a lot when we were there, go to other islands, dive, take a boat, etc...we didn't do hardly any of that, not because it wasn't available, but because Water Island is just so relaxing....the less you do, the less you want to do. Great beaches, Honeymoon for the sand, Limestone for the little hike around and for the snorkeling. The golf cart is a must do! I recommend renting one early in your stay, so you can see the whole island, plus it's tons of fun. Visit the fort (bring a flashlight, so you can go inside!), also I liked the abandoned hotel, good area for snorkeling as well. Go to movie night on the beach too, a unique experience (wear bug spay). Eat at Heidi's, good food and drinks, for more late night drinks Joe's is a good little spot as well. Note that there is not a lot else on the island, which could be a down side for some people, but if you just want to relax it's perfect.
So if you're looking for relaxing, a place you can cook for yourself some, a place with a big soft bed, stunning views and a welcoming atmosphere, this is your place. You won't feel like you're in a tourist trap, rather you'll feel like you have the whole island to yourself most of the time.
