Prior to booking the tour, I was very apprehensive about it as I have read some bad reviews here. I contacted the company and assured me it was isolated incidents. Very communicative at the beginning. Even offered to change dates if the day was not good for seeing the lights (I have emails to prove this statement) Nearing the dates, we had a chance to speak with some northern lights chasers at Santa Claus Village. He told us that on Tuesday and Friday we have very high chance of seeing the lights. So I emailed the Beyond Arctic and asked if Wednesday 20 March(the day I booked the tour) was a good day? And the operations manager assured us that it was. I checked google weather and and google says that it was cloudy till Thursday, but I’m not the expert here, you are. And true enough it was a cloudy day throughout the tour. We went to 2 spots and both spots nothing. The guide was very professional and was doing her job well. Weather didn’t cooperate, but if google could predict the weather fairly accurately, I wonder why couldn’t you? If it was clear skies and no northern lights I wouldn’t be so disappointed. So basically, regardless of weather, the company sets off for the tour. All in all, the most expensive pork sausage ever in my life, sans Michelin Star restaurants standards.

Hi Weihan,

Thank you for your feedback! I’m sorry to hear that weather didn’t co-operate during the tour, even we drove hundreds of kilometers on a hunt for the Northern Lights. This is the nature of Northern Lights hunting, sometimes we succeed perfectly and sometimes weather forecasts fail. Therefore, we have mentioned you in very first email: “Those nights we find out that we are not able to see the lights, we focus on night-time photography” For some reason it looks like this information hasn’t been fully clear for you.

Day you joined our tour was the best according to 3 days forecast. Thursday and Friday, we had a snowstorm hitting Rovaniemi and all our tours were cancelled. As you asked, we chose you the best night from these 3 nights, based on forecast read and examined 3-4 hours before the tour and where we saw the half-clear forecast 80km west from Rovaniemi. We do not use services like “google weather” or forecasts telling information about Rovaniemi city. They have nothing to do with our locations which can be located hundreds of kilometers away from Rovaniemi and might have totally different weather conditions.

But yes, I understand hunting the Northern Lights without success is really frustrating which is something we all must accept when dealing with natural phenomenon. Northern Lights hunting is all about increasing your chances to see the Lights and our team is here to get you to best area and locations on chosen night to do this and learn new things in a way of photography. Many times, we depart from Rovaniemi on cloudy weather or snowfall and end up under the totally clear sky. This way the Aurora hunting service is the most professional choice if you want have best chance to see the Lights. I’m also happy to hear that our guide did very professional job on hunting the Northern Lights and you were satisfied for this part of the service!

Let’s hope the weather will co-operate better in your future Aurora hunting tours!

We had a great night with Beyond Arctic in Rovaniemi. It was really lucky for us to book the tour at the only clear night that week. We waited for the Aurora along a site by the river bank, under the clear sky where you could see the milky way. We built a fire and roasted sausage they provided. We saw the Aurora on our way back to the city from a bridge, it was not strong but still wonderful and amazing, worth the all-night waiting.
The Beyond Arctic provided clothes and boots which were warm enough. We had our camera with us and borrowed a tripod from them(free). The tour lady with us that night was really kind and helpful, she helped us with all the photo shooting troubles. Thanks again for the wonderful night!

Thank you for your review! Sometimes Northern Lights activity shows up late at night, which is why we always have an extra hour to add for this kind of nights! I'm happy that it worked out and Auroras showed up for you! :)

I didn’t think we were going to see the lights because of the low kp level on the aurora app. But wow! The whole night it was an amazing show! Kerrtu our guide was beyond helpful. She helped me figure out the settings for my camera and i was able to take many many photos of the lights. She also shared stories about the lights. The sausage that we grilled on the campfire was also yummy. Overall a great night! Thank you Kerrtu!!!

We had an amazing day of snow shoeing. The guide was knowledgeable and took us to quiet parts of the forest where we were the first hikers of the winter. The sausage and glogi treat at the end were great too. Beautiful day!

Great to hear about your wonderful day in snowshoeing adventure! First snow and first tours of the winter are always special, as we are able to face untouched nature and no visible trails! Thank you for joining the team!

As the name says small group tour we were just 8 people and they made sure we are all suited up well and also provided with all the necessary clothing.

we received a batch of instructions and weather update along with some idea of where we are heading to see the northern lights.

Beyond Arctic are real northern light hunters we traveled to the 1st location about 50 km and we were hoping to see the lights but we could not.

Our guide Kerrtu provided us with all the knowledge required for capturing the lights.

due to the cloud, we had to travel more about another 15 km on a lake out of nowhere where we waited for the right time and we finally saw Lights .

I must say Most tour operators will give 3 hours tour but they told us today is a little cloudy so we will be out 4 or 5 hours but we will catch the lights anyhow

i Highly recommend people who are interested in photography to choose Beyond Arctic as hour Guide had really great knowledge of night photography.

Thanks BA for amazing memories..!!
