I stayed in the low season, early October, so no snow and no crowds. Very peaceful and a great base for exploring Rovaniemi and the surrounding arctic to hunt for aurorae but you'll need a car. The cottage was fantastic. Large, very comfortable and warm. The sauna was a bonus. Very helpful staff. The hills right behind are obviously great skiing when covered with snow but I just enjoyed walking around and enjoying the birdlife. The nearby town is small but it's a lovely place.

Room Tip: A car is essential if not there for just the skiing.

we have just come back from Christmas cottages, we traveled out on the 8th dec for 3 nights. our lapland experience was amazing our two girls aged 5 yrs and 10 yrs really enjoyed. our accommodation was clean but basic, you really have everything you need and if your going for 3 nights like us you wont really spend much time in your cabin. we stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and i am so glad i did not upgrade to half board, meals or snacks are provided on most of the excursions.
the cabin was very cold when we arrived and took us till the next day to sort out the radiator out, however still cold in the bathroom as it is not heated by any means- we put the sauna on for 30 mins and then opened the door it gave off lovely heat.
a little disappointed that none of the cabins looked or felt chrismassy! no decorations or lights

the trips are expensive so be prepared; we went on the elf adventure on monday afternoon- this was worth every penny!! on the tuesday afternoon we done the reindeer ride- this was cold and very slow- we wish we had done the husky instead, however the reindeer farmers knowledge and experience really gives you an insight to what they do! my advice if you want to experience a reindeer ride in a sleigh just do the taster session it will be enough!

Thomson crew and elves were excellent and ensured your holiday was magical and made it special, the gala dinner was lovely (the food cold and very little, so snack before you go) the children will find santa's arrival very exciting!!

we had an amazing time and im sure you will too! go, wrap up very warm with balaclavas and enjoy!

Room Tip: turn the sauna on to heat the bathroom cabin no 5 is a very good location in Christmas cottages 1

We stayed at Christmas cottages , also known as ounesvaaren pirtit from 4 December 2013.
The cabins were very clean and really warm and Cosy, there was extra blankets but we never needed them.
the cabin was well equipped with everything you could need including your own private sauna.
The location is great, in the forest, yet not too far from town, right next to the ski slopes, you can walk into Rovaniemi city centre in about 40mins, which is a lovely walk in the snow, taxis can be booked at reception and cost 12 euros, the taxi rank in rovaniemi to get back is next to Mcdonalds. You can also get a taxi to Santa Claus village, which cost 20 euros.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, breakfast was good, served 8am till 10 am, cereal, breads and jams, ham of the bone, sausages, meatballs, baked beans, bacon, tea, coffee and fruit juice.
I ate in the restaurant 1 evening and the food was not great, raw meat has to sent back to the kitchen, and food was over spiced , I would recommend you eat in Rovaniemi, most main courses are around 13 euros, but the food is much better, try cominos Mexican which was very good.
I travelled with Thomson , the Husky trip at 110 euros per person was the cheapest in resort, but do NOT book there reindeer trip at 108 euros per person, go to santas village were you can hop on a sleigh for 28 euros per person, it lasts just as long and will save you a fortune!
Thomson were fantastic, and if your lucky enough to be going you will have a very magical experience here.
I do recommend you visit santas village in your own time, Thomson only give you 1 hour and it's just not long enough to get around, it is really worth going after 3pm when it gets really dark so you can appreciate the lighting as well.

Just like we see in postcards this place is amazing. It is Situated in the middle of the forest with trees surrounding the chalet and amazing colorful skies. The location is perfect juts 10 minutes away from Rovaniemi Airport. The Chalet is private and we had a Sauna and 2 extra beds on the upper floor. It was fully equipped in case we wanted to cook sthg (they have a microwave, a fridge, coffee and hot water machine and an oven). You have a place to park your car for free and it is located very close to the ski resort and a mini market. They offer a nice breakfast every day from 8 - 10 am only, with a wide variety but as i read before in some reviews, they offer the same things which gets boring after a couple of days and no Hot Milk :(. But it is fine we can manage. The setting of the dining place is very warm and cosy next to the fire place in the reception.

Room Tip: Rooms next to the reception area are more convenient in order to walk to breakfast or for any reques...

Being a bit far from downtown has its traditional pro's and con's: less car and people noise, bigger rooms, but more time consuming if relying only on public transport, specially under bitter winter conditions. But if you have your own wheels, it may be perfect. Cabins here are double decked, but the "second floor" is actually suitable just for kids, as beds are smaller and ceiling is pretty low. There's a small, self-contained kitchen and a nice, private sauna. Erratic Wi-Fi was also included, but it is only useful to ckeck out news and e-mails; don't even think of using it for YouTube, for instance. All in all, a tidy and comfortable place. There's a big restaurant in the premises, but we didn't try it.

It is located near the town center, but in a not so populated area. The houses are very well equipped and stylish. Easy access and parking near the house. Very helpful staff. Good value for money. Kitchen is well equipped.

We stayed there during the long summer days, when the sun almost didn't set.
The hotel has a really nice concept - you do the check-in in the main building, and then you don't have to visit there again, as you reach with the car until your own cabin.
Our cabin had a lot of space, the kitchen was well-equipped and the in-room sauna was just fantastic! These facts, combining the privacy of the cabin, was really relaxing.
There's a grocery store just outside the hotel - it is quite small, but you can find there most of the things you need.
During our stay the roads near the hotel were renovated, which sucked a bit, but it's temporary and by the time you're reading this - it's probably over.
The only possible problem of the hotel is that it's relatively far from the center or from any other points of interest. If you have a car of course it's not a problem, but if not - travelling to and from there might be tricky.
All in all, great place which we will definitely recommend.
