“Magical skiing”
Reviewed 8 October 2013 via mobile

Hard to imagine a better place to ski with young children. Empty slopes, lovely routes through the forest and the Rosa and Rudolf run with little huts to ski through and real reindeers! Of course this is not the Alps but it doesn't pretend to be. For children and beginners, Ruka wins easily over bigger resorts. We were happy to let our children go off on their own which I definitely wouldn't do in larger resorts. However for advanced skiers there is some challenge -the Finnish downhill team train here- so it's not all gentle swishing.
Ski passes are cheaper than the Alps and the supermarket is well stocked and reasonably priced. It is quite expensive to eat out so we generally ate in the apartment so kept costs down.
Overall an excellent family ski destination.

“Nice stay”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

I made a visit to Ruka in the last week of August 2013 and it was beautiful. There was no snow, so it was a strange feeling to see all the Ruka ski equipment without snow.
Most of the restaurants ar still open at August meanwhile most of the tourists were gone, so I got plenty of space to walk to the top of the ski hill. There is an excellent panoramic view at this hill.
In Ruka Village there are plenty of summer activities: hiking, cycling, minigolf, golf, ... so that's makes it an ideal one or two day summer trip.

“Good ski resort, ideal for beginners”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Spent a day here at the beginning of April. The slopes were relatively quiet. Beautiful setting and a couple of nice bars. I am a beginner at skiing and found it ideal- not too many daunting slopes!!

“Great skiresort in northern Finland”
Reviewed 12 April 2013

There were freestyle ski competition in Ruka where our two youngster attended to. The weather were absolutely great. Lots of sunshine and the temperature was perfect for downhill skiing. The time that we were there was right after the Easter so the hills were not fully crowded. It gave us more space to really enjoy ourselves. The freestyle ski competition was about Finnish master championships so that was also something else to see!

“Great winter wonderland”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

A compact resort which has a lovely friendly feel to it. Out of main holiday periods it was very quiet, no queues for lifts and quiet pistes. There is enough skiing for beginners and intermediates, but limited number of black runs. The Finnish people are very friendly and helpful. The scenery is stunning and flood lights on all main trails allow you to ski until late. It wasn't too cold when we were there, but still used the fire pits which were at the bottom of most slopes to toast a marshmallow and sausage! Great place to try other winter activities such as husky sleds, snow mobiles, or cross country skiing. Currently only one direct flight a week from the UK (with Thomson ), although flight times are good and it is an easy transfer to the resort only takes 25 mins. Would highly recommend Ruka to anyone looking for a change from the Alps or as a first skiing holiday.
