Good Scandinavian food but pricey for what it was. Cheapest bottle of wine was nearly 40 Euros ! Bill for 2 mains, 2 desserts and 2 small glasses of wine was close to 100 Euros. Nice decor, attentive staff, handy for station but overpriced. Predominantly American tourists eating, no locals that we could see.

I visited this restaurant with Finnish friends and it was excellent - traditional Finnish fare, great atmosphere and surroundings and attentive staff. Mains around €20; this is a good price - Helsinki is an expensive city. Try the reindeer and flatbread, and the blueberry pie - traditional and delicious!

I was travelling alone and looking for something that would offer traditional food and pleasant surroundings, without lots of tables full of loud groups or romantic couples. This was perfect. I was offered a nice window seat. The waitresses were very helpful and attentive without being annoying. I had a selection of 'tapas' and a desert, and found everything to be excellent quality. The choice of wine was good and wine suggestions are offered. The Las Moras Malbec went well with the great apple crumble (which was made with green apples and oats). The bill was higher than I would expect to pay for tapas and wine (largely because of the high cost of alcohol), but the location, service and presentation made it seem worth it.

Took a foreign friend to Kaarna for lunch on a busy Saturday after peeking in several places in the centre of Helsinki. None of them seemed to offer a Finnish menu nor enough different choices at an affordable price. Luckily we found a table in Kaarna as it turned out to be exactly what we needed. It was lovely to sit down and be served to the table after walking around all morning. Kaarnas menu was varied and included a lot of different options for someone who wanted to try traditional Finnish dishes. For example, they had 'sapas' which means sampling Finnish dishes, either individually or as a selection of either fish or meat dishes. The menu included nice starters, salads, soups and more. We tasted the fish selection 'sapas' which turned out to be quite tasty, and also cabbage rolls with mushroom filling with beetroots - real comfort food! The apple tart with ice-cream was also good. The service was rather fast although we did not have our own waiter; different waitresses served us as they passed our table. The prices were quite good for a Helsinki restaurant. It's definitely worth coming again!

This restaurant has a splendid view on the Mannerheimtie at the heart of Helsinki and far from the urban pace of the capital. This quiet yet classy establishment proposes many different dishes (very good fried fish, excellent meat balls and reindeer burger). Desserts could have been a lit bit better. Advantages of this restaurant are also fast service, friendly staff and no need to book a table if you want to eat in the middle of the afternoon for the service is almost non stop. However, I strongly recommend booking the table for a dinner around 7-8pm.
