“Lots to see here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

This is one of the main attractions in Helsinki. We took the JT-Line and it was very comfortable and a relatively short trip to the fort from the marina. On the island, we did not join a tour but they are available. We stayed about 4 hours and walked through the area on our own. They have maps and everything is very well marked. We enjoyed walking through the area at a leisurely pace. We were there in September and there were no crowds but I’m sure that in the summer months or when the cruise ships dock, you may need additional time.

“For chilling out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2013

On may, the place is very nice and warm, its the perfect place if you want to escape for a day to Helsinki, do not expect a lot of activities, mostly it consist on walking around, watching interesting stuff and that's it
If your stay in Helsinki is short like a weekend, you can probably pass on Suomenlinna, but if you have a day to fill, this will make it
Plus, if you have a public transportation access (which is recommended as it gives you unlimited use of buses, tram ), the ferry is free

“Unic place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2013

The environment has been survived in a very good condition and the nicest thin about Suomenlinna is that you can really imagine what it has been felt to walk there in the historical times. You must go there by a ferry and during the trip you can take pictures of Helsinki from the Sea.

“A must see if you are in Helsinki”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

This Unesco world heritage site is well worth a visit. Catch the ferry from Market Square (8 euros gives you a day pass on all public transport in Helsinki or 5 euros return just for the ferry). The walls, Cannon, fortifications and buildings are compelling and very well preserved (hence its world heritage status) and it is easy to spend 3 hours just walking around. See the WWII submarine, the impressive dry dock or just clamber along the walls. In summer there are many museums. Less is open in Autumn or Winter but its still worth visiting for the bleak and stark landscape. If its late season it can be quite cold, with a strong wind coming off the Baltic that can bowl you over so bring warm clothes. Imagine those who manned this area when it was an active defense fort.

It´s a little bit difficult to walk around the island. with baby strollers. However, it is very beautiful, specially in sunny days.
