The Finns are apparently fresh-air fiends and the first hint of sunshine brings them out in droves to the green lawns of the tree-lined Esplanade. Loads of people of all ages were chilling out or eating lunch when I visited this centrally-located urban park which runsin a long rectangle from the main street to Hesinki's scenic harbour area. There are loads of top class shops the length of the Esplanade and a good range of inviting bars, cafes and restaurants. It's also a great place for people-watching and, unlike many other things in this high cost Scandinavian capital, is completely free of charge.
