“A green escape in downtown Helsinki”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

The Finns are apparently fresh-air fiends and the first hint of sunshine brings them out in droves to the green lawns of the tree-lined Esplanade. Loads of people of all ages were chilling out or eating lunch when I visited this centrally-located urban park which runsin a long rectangle from the main street to Hesinki's scenic harbour area. There are loads of top class shops the length of the Esplanade and a good range of inviting bars, cafes and restaurants. It's also a great place for people-watching and, unlike many other things in this high cost Scandinavian capital, is completely free of charge.

“Head here first”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

We enjoyed the ambience of esplanadi. Lots of people watching, plenty of bars and a great variety of live music bands playing each day at 4:30 and 6:30. There are shops on both sides to wander and the waterfront area is interesting.

A beautiful and green spot in the middle of the urban landscape. Beautiful flowers, statues and surrounded by beautiful houses. Great for a little afternoon stroll.

“Beautiful Focus of the City”
Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

This walking street seemed to be the heart of the city. It was vibrant and beautiful. Lots of cafes and shops. And there was a farmers market at the end.

“Beautiful Park Area... the focal point of Helsinki”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

If you visit Helsinki with a cruise, like we did, the walking distance from the pier is about 15 minutes. The paths are even and flat, so it is easy for everyone. The Esplanade Street in Helsinki is the focal point of the city. So, don’t miss out on that opportunity to get there. This is also 5-10 minutes to Senate Square and the Uspenski Cathedral (see my review for it). The park area is beautiful and surrounded by lots of flowers, sculptures and fountains that you can admire during your walk to the Market Square located at the very end of the street. This is where you can get yourself a nice souvenir or by fresh fruits, vegetables, fish or try a local dish. It is also located near the port area, so you will be able to see a few beautiful ships. The area is very popular and there are also plenty of benches or places to sit and relax, either in the park or along the water. A few public toilets are located in the park or along the street (.50 euros). Locals are very friendly and speak very good English. Finally, if you wish to know more about the events going on, you can always ask the Helsinki Helpers who are patrolling the area from June to August.
