“Good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2008

I have stayed here several times over the years. The rooms are very good with comfortable furniture and a good bed. Bathroom is spacious with a good shower in the tub. There is a while since my last stay, and the new bar is OK but the restaurant is definetly not as good as the old one, more of a tex-mex theme. Breakfast was the usual gloomy Finnish selection with rolls and bread which look and taste like it was made a week ago.

  • Disliked — Not able to open the window in my room and the food in the new restaurant

I stayed at the Radisson Royal hotel for a couple of nights, and it was a great stay. I had a wonderful room, very spaceous and there was no noise at all. The only complaint I had was that the room was not cleaned one day, propably the cleaning-lady had forgot to do it, but the nice receptionist was helpful to get it done. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the location is very good. The wireless broadband in my room also worked flawlessly. All in all, this is a great hotel for business stays in Helsinki.

Let's start with the good points:
- Location is great, very walkable to all the sightseeing and shopping.
- Hotel bar is very good and funky
- Reception is very efficient and quick
- In-room entertainment - you pay 16 EUR per day for ALL channels, not only for one.

and that's it

Bad points:
- if you book a standard room it is small - ok for one person but nevertheless the bathroom is minis (room 348)
- pillows and mattress are wayyyyyy too soft and don't give any support
- some rooms are facing the hotel bar, which can be very noisy during
the night especially if your room window is over the TV!
- hallway smells - I am yet none the wiser what this smell was during
my 2 nights there
- the room design is not for everyone!

I have to say it is not worth the 179 EUR paid for per night. If you usually go to a Starwood property or a Marriott or Hilton then you will be very disappointed!

This is the second time I've stayed here at the Radisson, having had a good experience in the past. However, I was quite surprised when the room I was allocated on this occasion was much larger and more comfortable than on the previous occasion. The bathroom was positively huge in comparison as well! I would avoid a room overlooking the bar/atrium as I suspect these are smaller in general, (and lack a certain amount of privacy!), even though they sleep two. Ask for a street-facing room - there isn't any noise from the road - to have a better chance of a better room!

Got transfered here from the Plaza.

This is a typical standard Raddision hotel. Efficient, Clean, but perhaps lacking a bit in character. In a good location, but i think the plaza would have been slightly better

We stayed in a 'Superior room', which was spacious. It had a kettle, free movies and a superior breakfast. As mentioned in another post the purple starry lights above the bed were something a bit different.

Not sure what the superior breakfast was as we went down for breakfast and stood at the restaurant entrance for a few minutes only to be ignored by a few of the staff so gave up and went to sit in the standard breakfast area, with all the commoners (Where we would normally be anyway). The breakfast was OK, extensive, but nothing special quality-wise.

As a frequent business traveller, this hotel offered great location point, business center had all the necessary needs, reliable internet in the rooms.

Rooms were spacious, clean.

The restaurant/ food in the hotel is average at best, but their are plenty of options outside to find some great food.

Stayed at the Royal for a week during a conference. This is a typical
radisson hotel with the cleanliness and service you would expect. The
hotel is on the west side of the city about 5-10 mins from the tram stop to go to the Helsinki fair centre or 10-15mins walk to the train
station.

We arrived at 1:30am in the morning and the reception staff quickly sorted out our room. We were on the 5th Floor looking out onto the main street. We were in a superior room, which was a good size, very clean and well kept. The bathroom was a good size and decent shower. Typical radisson toiletries.

Overall it is what you would expect from a 4 star hotel, my only problem was that the air con was not very efficient. We did ask reception and they gave us a key to open the window, which is a long winded process but brought the sought after relief - except that the road works outside started at 5am one morning! If the hotel could improve one thing it would be the air con.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful which made the stay here very pleasant.

There is a good buffet breakfast with cereals, fruit, cheeses, meats and cooked food, and a good supply of coffee.

If i stayed in Helsinki again for a conference I would maybe stay at a hotel on a tram route, because the time difference from the UK, plus late nights out always meant we were a bit slow in the morning.

I would stay there as a tourist when i go back as the centre is an easy walk if you are not in a hurry. We took an afternoon to walk down to the market square and senate square and caught the ferry to Suomenlinna for a walk around. It was a bit breezy but made for an interesting afternoon. Public transport was great in Helsinki, we had a prepaid card which could be used on all the public transport as well as the ferry to the island.
