“Stay elsewhere!”
Reviewed 19 January 2014

I have stayed at most of the Sokos chain hotels in this city, for various reasons, and Presidentti is the worst of them (so far). This three night stay was booked by my employer and not a very enjoyable one. Like most of the Sokos hotels, they're in desperate need of a renovation. This hotel is indeed in need of a makeover. The only reason this hotel gets two (instead of one) out of five points is because of the staff. They were polite, friendly and helpful though I complained and had to change rooms twice due to mold in the showers. The rooms are very basic, the breakfast is OK and sure, you cannot fault the location. This is a big hotel, with a lot of guests coming and going. I was therefore surprised that there was only two people working at the front desk most of the times, which resulted in long lines. I am not impressed by crowded big bad hotels. So no. I would never spend my own money on this place. Ever.

Room Tip: If you do decide to stay here and want to be able to sleep: 8th floor towards the courtyard!

Location is unbeatable, could not get any central. However I felt the reception struggled a bit with basic customer service skills, parking was a more expensive than in other central Helsinki hotels - no possibility to drive in and out with the same daily fee, which means if you pay a very high hourly rate everytime you take the car out. Might not be a problem for most, though, if the car is kept in the garage throughout the stay...

We had a Junior Suite with sauna. It was huge (76 m2) and the views were good. They had apparently renewed textiles and furniture but still I thought the hotel was overall worn down and could do with a complete renovation. Oldish bathrooms, marks on walls.

Ordered room service, it was prompt and the service was friendly but our cooked potatoes were unfortunately raw. Food was otherwise ok but very basic, nothing mind-blowing.

I'd recommend the hotel to tourists who prefer as central a location as possible but don't care too much for design or customer service. Would probably not recommend it for business travellers. We were a group of friends looking for a suite and sauna to ring in 2014, and that is what we got so I guess our expectations were met...

I stayed one night during the 2013 IIHF Ice hockey World Chamionships. However the hotel was full check-in went effortlessly and personnel was very friendly. I stayed in standard room and standard it really was. Bathroom went straight back to the beginning of 80's. Beds were modern though..

In the morning breakwas was good but crowded. Even though it went rather well, tables were cleaned quickly so everybody feound a place to sit.

If you are looking for central location for your stay in Helsinki and don't mind if your room has some retro elements in it, Sokos Hotel is a good choice. Although there are other hotels close by...

This place is like stepping back in time. The rooms are basic. I stayed here on business with some colleagues, due to its central location. Inside the room you do have a TV and iron. The bed itself itself is basic. The bathroom is severely lacking. This whole place needs a major refurb. I'm guessing back in the 1970's it was modern. It has fallen way behind. The staff here are very friendly, no complaints there. I didn't eat in the hotel so can't make comment there. The biggest plus for this place is location.

We stayed in this hotel as part of tour with the Travel Dept. for two nights on a bed and breakfast basis, we found the rooms in hotel of a high standard but the breakfast fare was very basic. We did however avail of dinner in the spanish restaurant in the hotel and found it good, pleasant, and cheerful. While the meal itself was reasonably priced the bar prices were extremely expensive e.g.four cognacs (not vsop) cost forty euro overall our experience in this hotel was good, the staff were very friendly and the location of hotel was ideal for sight seeing. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to a friend.

Hotel Presidentti is located in the very heart of Helsinki, next to the Kamppi shopping center and main bus station. Music hall, central railway station and Finlandia Hall are very near. The hotel is one of the biggest in Finland. There is no fitness room but saunas with swimming pool. Rooms are a bit old.

Been here several times when there is no other vacancy in town.

Can not recommend. Location is suberb, near rail road station, but there is a lot to do!
Rooms are expensive and poor shape. Bathrooms are really small and old / messy shape. Looks like there has not been done a renevation since it has been built in 1980 or something.

I would stay a way as long as possible. There is better Sokos Hotels in town in same price and a lot better value of money!
