As our 4th wedding anniversary, I and my wife (together with 2 of our friends) decided to stay at Scandi Paasi at Helsinki for a night last week after doing some research from Tripadvisor website.
We took a cab from Helsinki West Terminal (Finnish: Lansiterminaali) to this hotel. For those of you whom are coming to this hotel from the West Terminal, please be precise and inform the cab driver that it’s Scandi Paasi specifically. The cab driver mistook what we said and brought us to a Scandi Park hotel or something Scandi similar, but nevertheless, he was very honest in stopping the taxi meter momentarily when he found out it was the wrong hotel. It would be in your best interest to print out the hotel reservation receipt and show to the cab driver in black and white so that he can key in the hotel name into his GPS unit.
The reception experience we had, from day of checking in to checking out, was fantastic. The group of 3 lady reception staff (I think one of their names was Ella based on the name tag if I’m not wrong) were all very polite and attentive to our needs. They also very readily provided information about the hotel itself and the surrounding hotel premises with their fluent spoken English. One of them even helped us to make reservations for one of their restaurants in the hotel (which I strongly recommend as a lot of their locals go to this particular pub cum restaurant). I strongly recommend those of you interested to make a prior reservation first for a table, else it can be quite a long waiting time to get a seat for your meals. I can’t remember the exact name of this restaurant, but I remember there was a copy of their food menu in our hotel room as well. Besides this, the hotel reception also helped us to make a taxi booking for the 4 of us from Scandi Paasi to Helsinki Airport (which we paid 50 euros for a maxi-cab kind of taxi van since there are 4 of us adults with lots of both big and small luggage).
Location wise, like some of the previous reviewers mentioned, is just slightly away northwards from the city center. Because of this, we liked it especially… the peaceful serene surroundings away from the buzz of the city center, but yet still walkable to the city center. We walked from Scandi Paasi Hotel to the city center (for the wifey’s usual window shopping spree of LV, LongChamp, Hard Rock etc.) in about 15-20mins of slow leisure walk. If at any point in time you lost your bearings, you can approach and ask any of the pedestrians on the roads as most of them can understand and in fact speak fluent English). Generally, for those of you shopaholics, a full day of shopping in their city center interspersed with food/dessert breaks would suffice.
After we’re done with the shopping, we decided to try their Helsinki metro line to take back to Scandi Passi Hotel. From the city center metro station, it was only 2 stops away (5-10mins metro ride) to Hakaniemi station which you must alight, and after which take a 5mins walk over to the hotel (it costs about 2+ euros per adult ticket but it allows limitless rides within 1 hour, based on what the friendly local at the metro station told us when we approached him for help on how to go about buying a metro ticket).
For me and my wife, the hotel provided us a room with an in-built sauna within. Very impressive and we especially enjoyed the sauna in the privacy of our room. Our room also comes with a balcony, which we also appreciated and walked out often to enjoy the cold wind (it was winter in Feb). Bed was very comfortable till we almost didn’t want to get out of it the next morning. Bathroom amenities such as shampoo and body wash were provided as we chose the hotel package option that comes along with these extras, as well as a 5 Euros Food & Beverage voucher which you can use it either at the hotel souvenir shop or at any of their hotel F&B outlets.
On the whole, we are very pleased with the overall Scandi Paasi hotel experience. We are indeed glad to say that our very last night stay in Helsinki was given to Scandi Paasi Hotel...
