“Fantastic Stay!!”
Reviewed 13 February 2014

As our 4th wedding anniversary, I and my wife (together with 2 of our friends) decided to stay at Scandi Paasi at Helsinki for a night last week after doing some research from Tripadvisor website.

We took a cab from Helsinki West Terminal (Finnish: Lansiterminaali) to this hotel. For those of you whom are coming to this hotel from the West Terminal, please be precise and inform the cab driver that it’s Scandi Paasi specifically. The cab driver mistook what we said and brought us to a Scandi Park hotel or something Scandi similar, but nevertheless, he was very honest in stopping the taxi meter momentarily when he found out it was the wrong hotel. It would be in your best interest to print out the hotel reservation receipt and show to the cab driver in black and white so that he can key in the hotel name into his GPS unit.

The reception experience we had, from day of checking in to checking out, was fantastic. The group of 3 lady reception staff (I think one of their names was Ella based on the name tag if I’m not wrong) were all very polite and attentive to our needs. They also very readily provided information about the hotel itself and the surrounding hotel premises with their fluent spoken English. One of them even helped us to make reservations for one of their restaurants in the hotel (which I strongly recommend as a lot of their locals go to this particular pub cum restaurant). I strongly recommend those of you interested to make a prior reservation first for a table, else it can be quite a long waiting time to get a seat for your meals. I can’t remember the exact name of this restaurant, but I remember there was a copy of their food menu in our hotel room as well. Besides this, the hotel reception also helped us to make a taxi booking for the 4 of us from Scandi Paasi to Helsinki Airport (which we paid 50 euros for a maxi-cab kind of taxi van since there are 4 of us adults with lots of both big and small luggage).

Location wise, like some of the previous reviewers mentioned, is just slightly away northwards from the city center. Because of this, we liked it especially… the peaceful serene surroundings away from the buzz of the city center, but yet still walkable to the city center. We walked from Scandi Paasi Hotel to the city center (for the wifey’s usual window shopping spree of LV, LongChamp, Hard Rock etc.) in about 15-20mins of slow leisure walk. If at any point in time you lost your bearings, you can approach and ask any of the pedestrians on the roads as most of them can understand and in fact speak fluent English). Generally, for those of you shopaholics, a full day of shopping in their city center interspersed with food/dessert breaks would suffice.

After we’re done with the shopping, we decided to try their Helsinki metro line to take back to Scandi Passi Hotel. From the city center metro station, it was only 2 stops away (5-10mins metro ride) to Hakaniemi station which you must alight, and after which take a 5mins walk over to the hotel (it costs about 2+ euros per adult ticket but it allows limitless rides within 1 hour, based on what the friendly local at the metro station told us when we approached him for help on how to go about buying a metro ticket).

For me and my wife, the hotel provided us a room with an in-built sauna within. Very impressive and we especially enjoyed the sauna in the privacy of our room. Our room also comes with a balcony, which we also appreciated and walked out often to enjoy the cold wind (it was winter in Feb). Bed was very comfortable till we almost didn’t want to get out of it the next morning. Bathroom amenities such as shampoo and body wash were provided as we chose the hotel package option that comes along with these extras, as well as a 5 Euros Food & Beverage voucher which you can use it either at the hotel souvenir shop or at any of their hotel F&B outlets.

On the whole, we are very pleased with the overall Scandi Paasi hotel experience. We are indeed glad to say that our very last night stay in Helsinki was given to Scandi Paasi Hotel...

Stayed here at the end of January beginning of February for 4 nights.

The hotel is a 1 minute walk from the Metro station and all major tram lines in Helsinki.

We stayed in a superior extra room - which was a very nice size - plenty of room to walk about and we had a sauna and a balcony (and on the top floor!) The bed was very large (king size). The room was very unique and had a very cool 'story theme'.

The room included a minibar, flat screen TV , house coats, face/body products.

The room was very clean - and was cleaned and made up every day.

The staff at the hotel are very friendly and very knowledgeable about the local area.

The breakfast buffet is incredible - there is so much choice! Everything from bacon, eggs, to salmon and cold meats.

This hotel is gay friendly and I'd definitely recommend it and would stay again.

We only stayed one night as we were traveling home from London to Australia with Finnair and we chose to end our trip in style.

The hotel is centrally located with close access to public transportation making it easily accessible from the airport (approx. 30min bus trip). We found the staff friendly and accommodating when we requested a late checkout.

The room was a breath of fresh air with modern furnishings and a cool and unique style. The heated tiles in the large bathroom were a nice touch and much appreciated when the outside temperature was around -12 degrees celsius.

We really enjoyed our stay, as short as it was and hope to spend more time in Helsinki in the near future. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you for a fantastic ending to our holiday.

The moment we entered the hotel we were made to feel welcome from the friendly smile from the hotel reception staff! We had booked the 'superior plus' room and now had a choice of room with a bathtub or a sauna. Sauna it was! The check-in was quick and we were told about the breakfast times and the restaurants in the hotel.

The room was on the fifth floor overlooking the Paasi Square. The room was very spacious. There was a sofa, armchair and a dining table for 4 people. The kitchenette was equipped with coffee/tea making facilities (only with coffee creamer though), a fridge and a microwave oven. The bed was king size and it was very comfortable. The dim lighting in the toilet was great if you needed to go in the middle of the night: you didn't need to switch on the bright main light on...

The sauna was a good size, and nice and hot! I think the first time we had set the temperature too high as the 'löyly', the steam was burning hot. Or maybe we poured too much water on the stones at once! But anyway it was very relaxing to have it in your room.

The breakfast was the usual good standard Scandic breakfast with nice and varied choice of food and drinks. The orange juice (from the iPad operated juice machine!) was tasting like a freshly squeezed juice.

The hotel is very near to tram and bus stops, and the metro station. It's only a quick walk from the main shopping areas of central Helsinki too.

We loved the hotel and the service, the reasonable prices. The fast and free wi-fi is great. We will be back in the summer!

Room Tip: If you want to relax in the room, choose a room with a sauna!

Really cool design property - the first of their 'story' properties in Helsinki.

Set on the place of the cities old circus you'll find the theme carried throughout the hotel - from the check in staff with suspenders and the look of a ringmaster to the wall paper (if you get the circus themed room!)

Set just off the main street, trams and metro are just a minutes walk away and can take you to the station, to the water, or anywhere else in the city you want to go.

One thing that I didn't really like about the hotel, but I think this could be because I've been spoilt by staying at some other properties lately, is that you need to pay for extra amenities (a comb, etc.) and the mini bar selection is quite small (but as always quite pricey.)

The lounge downstairs is nice to sit and relax in, and there are some good food options in the area.

Would definitely stay again. :)

The Scandic Paasi is well located for those that want to be within a sensible distance of the action in Helsinki, but at the same time want to ensure a peaceful stay in the city. Situated in Hakaniemi, just off the main drag, the Paasi is close to transport links including trams, the metro line and a number of buses including the 615 airport service.

This hotel is not your run of the mill Scandic affair, but has set itself halfway between being a standard chain hotel and an upmarket boutique offering. Located in what looks to be a converted office block at the front, and a number of older buildings plus a new extension to the rear, the hotel is a melee of styles and ages. The designers have capitalised on this, and three distinct themes run throughout the hotel; 1920's, 1950's and 2000's. I was given a 1920's theme room for my 5 night stay at the hotel, and while certain aspects of the room will not be to everyone's taste - the heart shaped pillows have been mentioned before - I found my room rather pleasant, if only a little small for a longer stay. The decor included a black leather headboard, dark wood floors and doors and wallpaper with silhouettes of "The colourful characters of Siltasaari" among other things.

In terms of hotel facilities, it has everything you could need for a city trip; service at check in and the lobby bar were, as always with the Scandic group, excellent, and other facilities included a lounge, gym, small 'business centre' and the Juttutupa and Graniittilinna restaurants. The former is a fairly laid-back affair, serving food similar to UK pub-grub, whereas the latter is more a-la-carte offering steaks, blini and reindeer. I sampled food in both, and I had no issues at all; the reindeer was cooked to perfection. Of course, with Scandic, breakfast is included, and this certainly did not disappoint. I'd love to have one of those i-pad juice dispensers in my kitchen!

All in all the Scandic Paasi did not let me down; both the room and service were excellent, and I would not hesitate to return again. I would just mention that for me, this is certainly a leisure destination owing to the boutique style, and 'circus' theme that resonates throughout - it's up my street, but some may find it a little too 'quirky'.

I very much look forward to coming back to the hotel on my next trip to Helsinki!

Room Tip: For longer stays, consider a Superior room as I found my room a little small for 5 nights.
