“Great stay whilst on course”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Had a three day stay in the hotel in Helsinki. I was attending a course in Helsinki and chose this hotel. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful, they made the stay a pleasure. Rooms were unique and ours had a punch ball! Big enough, quiet enough, great that they had good wi-fi that was free right through the hotel 5mb at least. breakfast was buffet style but was excellent and you didn't need lunch. Ideally located for the city and close to public transport interchange. Great place, great visit and great weather

I stay here quite a lot since it is very close to where our finish office is located. The location is really "off" and you face a good 20-25 min walk to get to the city center and shops. The are around the hotel is totally dead so there is nothing to do except sleep. The hotel itself is very nice for being a Scandic, a concept hotel with more design and features than you normally would expect from Scandic. There are nice lounge areas around the reception. The restaurant across the courtyard is OK but not more than that. I have never experienced checking in/out taking so long time, this happens every time I stay here so something is fundamentally wrong with the routines. A good choice if you do not want/need to stay in the city center

Dear Per S,
Thank you for your kind review of Scandic Paasi. So delightful to hear that we are situated close to your Finnish office, and that you value our identity as one of the Scandic story hotels. Since you value fast check-in we would absolutely like to offer you that every time. We are trying to identify you know by your first name, please help us to recognize you next time during your arrival. For faster check out, we would like to introduce you to our newest exciting service innovation; check-out online, which means that you can check out by your own smartphone. All that is needed to check out with a smartphone is your telephone number or email address to be registered at check-in. The night before check-out, you will receive a text message and can check your bill, add purchases from the minibar, update address details and pay for your stay. The receipt is forwarded by email and the keycard can simply be dropped off at Paasi’s reception on the way out. This way you can check out when it suits you best; evening before, during your breakfast or latest in your taxi on the way to the airport. See you soon again, warmly welcome to Paasi!

I really cannot praise this hotel enough. We stayed for my birthday weekend and the birthday message and sweets which appeared in the room were a lovely surprise. The room itself was huge and very well appointed with a really useful kitchen area (including fridge and microwave). We had a private sauna in the bathroom (as requested) which was also excellent. Noting other reviews, I should say that our windows opened fine (with a good secure hook) and the air con was also working fine. The rooms were very well soundproofed and we looked on to a quiet little square, but were still two minutes walk from the metro station and a good selection of trams and buses. It is also easy to stroll into town - about 15 mins if you take things really gently. All the staff were friendly, polite and efficient. The choice at breakfast was outstanding - organic bread and cereals plus a good hot and cold selection - it never got crowded and staff made sure that all choices were replenished regularly. We ate in the hotel Restaurant Juttutupa which was excellent and seemed very popular with non-residents - it gets very busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so it is a good idea to book if you are there at the weekend. We got a €6 voucher against bar/restaurant bills every day as part of our room deal - also, it is worth noting that Scandic offer excellent deals if you book early.

I loved this hotel! Location is great for both exploring the central part of Helsinki, but also the cool Kallio area. Quiet location. Great service from a wonderful staff. I asked for a quiet room since I was working, and that was no problem. Breakfast is so tasty and there's lots to choose from. And it's cool too - you get juice from an iPad :) Loved it! Fast wifi too. Would stay again.

If you're bored with the standard hotels, try this one. My bed was comfortable although the room was slightly uncomfortable because it was too hot. The windows could not be opened and the aircon either didn't work or didn't work very well. It was also quite dark due to a lot of dark wood on the floor and walls. There was just one small round table, but no desk which, for a business trip, I found inconvenient. It did however have a kitchenette with microwave (useful if you want a break from the extortionate restaurant prices in Helsinki) and the room also featured a punchbag so that you could vent your frustration!
Breakfast was self service, as normal, but again slightly unusual in having to select your favourite juice from an iPad, making sure you had already strategically placed a glass under the tap.
Location is a bit away from the heart of the city, but pleasant nonetheless.

Thank you so much for your review of Scandic Paasi. It was a pleasure to have you as our guest. We are so sorry about the room temperature. The hotel is in a fine location, it is not right in the centre of Helsinki but in an interesting part of town in my opinion. The area is well serviced by public transport, and bus transfer from airport is dead easy. The rooms were clean and the staff was very nice and helpful.

I stayed in this theme hotel last week both for business and pleasure. The company I work for was organising a 3-day conference next door and we put up our participants here. I then extended my stay to visit Helsinki for an additional 2 nights. On check-in, the staff arranged for me to have the same room during both parts of my stay. The room was comfortable with a queen-size bed, a spacious bathroom and a balcony. The theme of my room was “running”, though unlike other rooms, it was not so obvious. The only downer was that the decor in some of the rooms was a bit dark.
Breakfast was varied with a good selection of both sweet and savoury foods. The coolest thing was the iPad from which to choose the juice you wanted!
There were complimentary bicycles and umbrellas for guests to use (since it rained during my days off, I just got to use the umbrellas!). The reception and bar staff were always friendly, smiling, and helpful. And the nicest part of the hotel was the lobby bar area with its psychedelic ceiling and cosy & comfortable armchairs and sofas.
To top off this wonderful stay, on Friday evening around 6 pm, I had the pleasure of listening to a saxophone player on one of the balconies above my room play a few pieces (including “Summertime”) for the guests. I was told that it was a student from the local music conservatory who, between May and August, plays for 15 minutes every Friday evening to start off the weekend. A really nice touch!

Room Tip: Rooms in the newer part of the hotel are nicer.

Dear nsclennon,
Thank you for sharing your story, it delights us a lot. How convenient and nice to extend your stay after conference, great idea. Your two pictures of our lobby bar’s story room/library are just beautiful, thank you. How happy we feel to hear, that you enjoyed and valued our summertime evening music. Yes, every Friday evening at 6 pm music will be performed from the balcony of the inner court by young promising musicians/ saxophonists (from 2nd May to 5th September). Music symbolizes that a new and exciting summer weekend has just started for locals and Helsinki visitors from different parts of the world, for our friends like you. It was a pleasure to have you as our guest all the way from Belgium, our best regards to you!
