“Not as good as the other Scandic's in HKI”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Went there with the whole extended family (we had 3 rooms on the 6th floor for 4 nights) to attend a wedding in helsinki. The hotel is a walk from city centre so you need to take the tram if you want to go there (nearby not many restaurants, shops etc). Quet hotel with mostly families so no disturbing sounds from for example reatsurants/clubs etc. Especially 6th floor very quiet.
The hotel is undergoing renovation wich didn't disturb us on the weekend at all. But chaos (=lots of people and kids) in the breakfast area especially after 9!
The new style is ugly. All "trendy grey" (=really depressing, NOT chic) and some cheap-looking industrial feeling that doesn't look like it's going to last for more than a few years before it's really OLD.

The room felt like there was more emphasis on what it LOOKED like than on actual comfort. No wardrobe to put your clothes in (!!!), I had to keep the whole family's clothes in our suitcases for 5 days! There is only a clothes rack in the room at it looks messy all the time. The lights light up the room as if it was a store window and there is a large mirror/ironing station that takes up a lot of space in the room. There's no workspace/desk only a lot of small round tables.
This is not suitable for a family of 2 adults and 2 small children (ages 3 and 5). The rooms are too small and not functional at all. Choose scandic Marski instead with big, nice "old fashioned but functional" rooms!

Spent a night here during June 2014, still in the middle of renovations, but it didn't bother us at all. We got room with 2 extra beds for the kids, which were really nice, and comfortable. Everything was clean and service in the hotel was really nice! View from 6th floor was great, kids loved to spot the trams through the window! Breakfast was good, nice selection of foods but laid out very nicely so you could easily find what you wanted!

Room Tip: We had a room from Mannerheimintie side, from 6th floor, the room was quiet and the view was great!

It is located on one of the major access roads to the center of Helsinki which is 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Staff was helpful and friendly. The decoration of the room was a little "tired"
but functional

Room Tip: In June 2014 the hotel is being remodeled: Ask for a floor in which no remodeling is going on.

My wife and I had booked a so-called superior extra room. The room was dusty in general and even had dust bunnies in the closet. Also the room had some indescribable mess under the windows which looked like an unfinished ventilation- or heating device. This device had a permanent humming sound and a periodic more noisy sound which efficiently woke us up whenever it sounded. Further, we couldn't turn on the reading lamps at the bed and the mattress in the bed was so worn out that the slightest movement from one of us was transferred to the other by springs so tired that it felt like we were at sea.

All in all a very disappointing stay.

With excellent connection to Helsinki airport (just 6.5 euro with Finnar bus) and excellent rooms is good choice, if you are OK with the price. Breakfast was excellent also with wide selection. Wi-fi was not working the first hours of my staying, but later was OK

Room Tip: Just remember that this period of the year (midsummer period) during the night is not actually dark...

The Hotel currently under renovation but still works well and the room I had was excellent. It is a large city centre hotel Friendly helpful staff, good breakfast and excellent rooms on the 9th Floor.

Room Tip: I used the 9th Floor Exec rooms and it was an excellent room. Quiet, clean, comfortable and spacious...

Stayed here 1 night and participated in a business meeting.
- Rooms are very old (that is why they are renovating)
- Conference Room dates back to 1960's
- Lunch (Set Menu) was mediocre (2 slices of Thin Fish + Dessert + Coke or Fanta)
Rude serving staff
Good reception people
10-12 minutes walking to city centre

Room Tip: Ask for the renovated rooms.
