“Hidden gem for foodies”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2014

Book in advance. Its a short distance out of the main area of the city. We took our 8 year old son. Only about 20 covers. Food is outstanding. Expect fine dining quality food - of the highest standard. Relaxed atmosphere, not need to get dressed up - smart casual is fine. Menu is in Finnish however waitress explained it to us in English. It was the start of asparagus season so 3 starters of different variations and we opted for 1 each so we could sample them all - delicious. For main course we had choice of lamb or pollock - my husband had the lamb and he was completely silent during eating - a first! My son and I had the pollock and we finished our plates. Pud was medley of rhubarb or cheese. We tried them both and they were outstanding. Wine comes with the meal and they suggest the wine to go with the meal. Very expensive but very worth while because the food is outstanding. More impressed that my 8 year old son polished everything off!! However, its not a child friendly restaurant as it only has about 20 covers and no kids menu so if your kids are well behaved :-) and love food then this is perfect for you. Otherwise its a foodies delight.

“Hidden Gem”

We found this restaurant through trip advisor, I am so glad we checked it out! We arrived early as we had not booked. From the outset the staff were friendly and helpful. The menu(all in finish) was explained to us and wines recommended for each course. We ordered and each course was a taste sensation. There is much to recommend here from the individual service to the homely atmosphere all is great. Well worth searching out, don't expect a large sign or flashing advertisement you need the address! Not the cheapest but well worth the money as it is a long way from the generic hotel fare.

“It's all about the food (and the wine)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

Rony Eriksson has been running Kolo for more than two years, a restaurant that gets everything right. There are just 22 covers. There is a choice of only 3 or 4 dishes at each stage of the meal. The wines (unusual Italian producers are a speciality) vary often. The crockery has seen better days - though that adds to the charm. There is no outdoor sign, but with such a small dining area, that's not a problem.

Everything is made in the kitchen, including the delicious range of breads. Special touches included a creamy pineapple sorbet served between courses, in a chilled receptacle.

The menu is only in Finnish, but the staff translate efficiently. In fact the front of house staff were impeccable throughout the meal - perfectly balancing informality with a professional approach.

Everyone at Kolo is passionate about food and the dining experience. Decor is nothing special, the plates and cutlery have seen better days. But who cares when the food is so good?
