“Green house closed, garden under repair!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

Monday the green houses are closed, and right now (June 2014) the gardens are under repair. Then ad that is was a dull and dark day, and everyone will understand our impression was not to a five star recommendation.
Visit to the garden is free - to the green hose (when open) 8 eur.
We must try another time!!

“A typical Botanical Garden”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2014

A place where pleasantly can relax in any season : in the summer - a nice green park, in the winter - tropical and subtropical plants gratify to the eye and soul in a greenhouse. I was in the winter. The greenhouse isn’t large; nevertheless for each climate zone is allocated a separate room. The collection of plants is well matched; each example has the appropriate signatures. The whole room is reserved for the violets, but the almost complete absence of flowering (I understand the beginning of February is not the best time for this) is somewhat disappointing.
Except of plants the history of the park and buildings are interested also because they were created in the early 1800s and up to present days reflect the features of the XIX century.
Despite the fact that there is good, this place cannot surprise. This is a typical small botanical garden. Every first Thursday of the month from 15 to 18, admission is free.

“Trees and plants.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2013

This botanical garden is full of trees and plants, and funny ones if any! We went there in the middle of the winter and had a tour of the greenhouses. There are many different greenhouses, all inter-connected, each with its own distinct species and climate. It was fun to see an actual cocoa and cafe tree as well as the almost scary banana tree! I would definitely recommend this place to biologists and tree huggers !

“Beautiful gardens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2013 via mobile

Warning: the map location on City Guide is NOT CORRECT. It is not near Sweedish Theatre on Esplanade. The correct location is Unioninkatu 44. Tram 3, 6 or 9 to Varsapuistikko then a short walk. The glass houses are definitely worth a visit. Look out for giant water lilly in the summer - early autumn.

“An oasis in Helsinki”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2013

We discovered the gardens whilst walking- they are very close to city apartments. My young children loved exploring in there, and saw a "real" bumblebee ( in Australia they are not fat and furry)! The giant Lilly pads are amazing. June was a great time to see everything at its best.
