A nostalgic place to visit if you'd like to know more about the history of this young city. I love the Children's Town exhibits as there are rooms that are replicates of kitchen, dining room, dressing room (play dress up and role play), classroom, grandma's home, and even a theatre (to act on stage). The Time Machine played a video but was in Finnish. Nonetheless, the visuals were captivating enough for me to disregard the narration. On the 2nd floor, I found an exquisite dial face (or rotary dial) phone. Of course, I played with it! You should have a go at it too.

A delightful free museum near the waterfront and Market Square. It is popular with local families and has interesting exhibits depicting city life over the last 100 years. There is also a café and shop and indoor play area for children.

The recently renovated Helsinki City Museum is a really nice attraction in the heart of the city, just beside the Senate Square. It is easily reached by foot or public transportation and the accessibility supports people of all age. The exhibitions have good variety and give a good look in the history of Helsinki and gets the visitors involved with the use of modern technology. The museum has always a free entry and is not too big, so it can be also visited just briefly. I think museum offers something for everyone, were you a local or a newcomer to Finland. The museum is highly recommendable for families because of the Children's Town section.

I thought that my visit would be short but I ended up spending about 2 hours there. Great small museum about history of Helsinki located in the heart of the city. Time machine was really great with those VR glasses, don't miss that. You'll get more out of the exhibition if you grab the Kaiku magazine with you and if you're not familiar with Helsinki and want to visit the museum I would recommend to book a guided tour. Not a must see but great museum for families!
