We visited the museum and cafe in a sunny day. The location is very beautiful and the English tour was interesting, even for a Finn.

President Urho Kekkonen was famous for his passion to sauna and even sauna diplomacy. I felt obligatory to visit his residence on Tamminiemi and yesterday I had a chance to. There are tours of 3 languages dayly. The English one starts at 14:30. It costs 6,5 euro which is very convenient price.

It was not however obvious that we can see sauna, because they usualy show it in summertime. But the word sauna seem to gave a sort of hypnotizing effect to the majority of Finns and we were let to see it finally.

To start with there was a surprise to see how modest President`s life could be. Furnishings are well chosen but realy very modest, similar to those we remember from our life.

Sauna was very nice and still has a right smell. It is heated by powerfull Aito sauna oven, which means that stones are heated by direct fire. There was amazing feeling to imagine Soviet leader Nikita Chrusciov sitting there all red and sweaty. I think this was a great idea to use sauna diplomacy and at times when right words were so uneasy to find.

Indeed a visit to Kekkonens vila and sauna is worth to pay once you find some time to visit another beatifull place in Helsinki - Seurasaari Open Air Museum. Presidents vila is nearby the entry bridge to Seurasaari on the right hand side.

We took our friend to see Seurasaari and on our way we stopped to this museum. It's an residence of Finnish late president Urho Kekkonen. He lived there until his death. It's modest but interesting. Original decor and art. I can't even imagine how much history was made inside those walls. Entrance fee. Next to his house is also a small cafe.

You get to Urho Kekkonens museum in Tamminiemi (Ekudden in swedish) by bus no 24 from the city center. After about 20 min busride to the end of the line you arrive at the museum located in the house where finnish presiden urho kekkonen lived and died. The house is well preserved and is supposed to look like when urho lived there. We took a guided tour in swedish (took 1 hour and 20 min.it seemed like we were the first foreigners to ever come to the museum). The guide knew a whole lot about urho himself and the interior of the house. A very good tour if you'd like trivia about Urho. A little less good tour if you want to now more about finland's foreign policy during the cold war.

This is the home of Urho Kekkonen, President of Finland from 1956 to 1991. The house has been lately renovated but I expect the result is still faithful to the original, including the sauna to make friends with leaders of neighboring states, Nikita Khrushchev for an example.
