“Incredible monument x 2”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

There are two monuments to Sibelius on this site. The official one which is a marvellous abstract sculture of vertical tubes with very detailed patterning and a more traditional bust of Sibelius nest to it. I was travelling with a CHoir and so we flash mobbed the tourists singing under the tubular sculpture. Interesting accoustic and very entertaining for those in attendance.

“Sibelius Monument Helsinki”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

This monument is dedicated to the composer Jean Sibelius. It is made up of hollow steel pipers welded together. It is an abstract art to a waver like pattern. We were warned not to try putting our heads into the hollow pipes, as many people have got stuck into them. In the park there are ice cream vendors in case you feel like having it.

“I love this place”

I really love this place. The sculpture itself is bombastic, very nice gor detail phozo shooting as well. Simply impressive. I really like the small harbour on the water, where you can have a nice rest with great salmiac ice cream from the stall close by.

“Popular Photostop”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

On our city tour of Helsinki, we stopped at the Sibelius Monument for a quick photo and a chance to get up close to the undulating pipe like structure on display in the park. This is an unusual monument that invites one to touch it, walk underneath it, or around it. Made from steel...some shiny material anyway...., and resembling a cluster of organ pipes, these welded together hollow pipes appear to vary in their external decoration, length, and diameter. If you are a tactile type of person, you could run your hand over the pipes, touch them, rub them as well as do the walk around it. I think it would be neat if Sibelius' music was coming out from the pipes! These pipes are attractively displayed on a rocky outcrop in the park against a backdrop of green trees. To accompany these pipes, the artist, Instead of placing a bronze full figure statue of Sibelius in the park, has made an image of Sibelius' face from the same material as the pipes and placed it on a wall so it looks like Sibelius is either just coming over the wall, or his face is melting into the wall. Most unusual, indeed. Everyone knows the structure is to honor Sibelius, but I am unsure if there is a plaque closeby documenting Sibelius' importance to the Finns. The monument is set in a park with attractive flower/shrub borders close by. Our guide allowed about 15 minutes for this stop. It's an attraction on the itinerary of the city tour, but if you have limited time in Helsinki, focus on museums or art galleries, if that is where your interest lies, rather than trying to get to this park on the trams.

“Random sculpture in a nice park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

The sculpture was pretty - but it was overrun with tourists when we arrived. We got cinnamon buns and sausage at Regatta (cafe on the bay) per another reviewer's suggestion), and enjoyed the peaceful harbor and beautiful weather. When we walked to the next sight, this one had cleared out and we got to see it - it was much prettier the second time.
