If you're a fan of jazz, swing or blues music you must check wheter there are some gigs you may want to see while staying in the capital of Finland. During twenty years this club has earned a great reputation in Finland which isn't surprising.

Most people here are over 40s but this is an appropriative place for younger jazz-fans in their 20s, too. Storyville has a magical athmosphere, the bands play in the cellar where you can dance till 4 am. - you can also test your skills as a solo dancer, it's perfectly appropriate here.

Drinks are relatively expensive, but this is not a place where you aim at getting drunk as a skunk. An average selection of beers, spirits and wines available. The entrance fee is about 10-15 euros depending on the band.

Usually there are two gigs in a night - the first one begins at 8.30 pm. and the second is for night owls beginning at 11 pm.

Went here for dinner followed by a Chicago Blues band live concert. The place is decorated with a lot of class, remembering of the American 50's. Good food, and the sound was of a real good quality. Don't know if in the summer is as nice as in winter, but I definitely recommend it!
People were dancing the whole evening/night, not disco style but woogie-boogie.

This is a very busy venue and space is a permium, unfortunately I encroached on the space occupied by a group of Finns and had a bad confrontation with a Finnish Nationalist/facist, I understand a ltttle Finnish a so I got the basic drift of what was said, I was unwelcome tourist in this place and I should leave. I raised the issued with the staff they expressed sympathy but took no action ! For my me not a fun place, never again

If you're looking for good food, great jazz, and a terrific ambiance, Storyville is the place for you. Storyville is centrally located, near the new Helsinki Music Centre. There's a good sized outdoor terrace (during the warmer weather), a cozy piano bar on the ground floor, and a jazz supper club in the lower level. The downstairs club is terrific for a night of listening. There's a well-lit stage, the acoustics are great, and the sight lines are good. There's also a dance floor in front of the stage. The club books a variety of jazz groups from traditional dixieland to bebop. The place is usually packed, especially on the weekends, so if you want to have dinner, reservations are suggested. The menu and wine list are pretty much what you'd expect at a jazz club -- good, not haute gourmet. It's a non-smoking room.

People generally listen to the music -- something one can't take for granted at jazz clubs. There's a charge for the coat check - just think of it as a cover charge, something that's standard at decent jazz clubs. It helps to pay the rent and the musicians. The restaurant opens at 8:00. The music starts at 8:30. On the weekends they often have two bands. No extra charge for staying for both shows. If you're a night owl you can stay late into the night.

At a time when jazz supper clubs are closing down, at least in the States, Storyville in Helsinki is a treasure -- a place where people gather, sit back and unwind, have some good food and drink, and listen to great music. Who could ask for more?
