Myself and my partner had to book a hotel for an impromptu stay in Helsinki in January. The idea of staying in a converted prison for a reasonable price appeal to us. The standard double room while not huge was very cosy with comfy duvets and a strong shower and satellite tv channels. It does take a bit of getting used to only having windows higher up the walls but nice to see they've kept many of the original features in the lobby areas. The breakfast was adequate with continental selection of breads, cereals and fruit with table service for tea, coffee etc. The tram stops right outside the hotel to take you into the centre within approx 5mins but also a short walk if you'd prefer with lots of culture and amazing architecture to see on your way. Would definitely recommend for a short stay and great location, but if you prefer the feeling of bright and airy rooms this may not be for you. The wifi was also very intermittent which seems to be a common theme throughout the reviews possibly due to the weather in winter but also the thick prison walls means if you are on a higher floor then the signal may be very weak.
