One of the best places in Kotka (mean museum). Building is it by itself to worth to see(some may say ugly, but definitely little odd). There's a lot see:plains, boats and many other things involves to sea and living near to sea. And not to forgotten there's a exhibitions in sometimes. And it's not expencive.

lunch buffet in the restaurant was not a special. It was similar what you get from the ABC petrol stations, but with higher price.

It was much more interesting than expected. Interactive in a simple, normal way. Do visit! Unless you hate fish...

My husband really likes maritime museums and this one is excellent. We were especially enthralled with the gorgeous wooden boats and there are many of them here. There are lots of interactive exhibits that will engage kids of all ages and videos that enhance the experience. We did not pay extra to go on board the icebreaker as we have done that elsewhere. There was another side to the museum which had information about the Kotka area and history. It was also well done.

Don't miss the restaurant if you are there at lunchtime. There is a reasonably priced buffet lunch and also sandwiches, salads, and more. It has a great view over the waterfront. Also, before you enter the museum, there is a free exhibition that contains some interesting vessels.

This title - just a joke, certainly. By the way, there are several museums.
I liked it very much because of following:
1. Wave-style architecture of building - ver yimpressive. It is better to look at it from the hill - see my photo.
2. Around building - a lot of interesting things, like the oldest ice-breaker.
3. On the first floor in Boat Hall we saw the multi-seater sport kayak, which belonged to Australian Olympic team. This team took part in Olympic games 1952 in Finland, but lost a game. After games, according story by our museum guide, this sailor team had no money on return way. That is why they sold their boat to Finnish sport club.
4. I liked museum which contains information about steam ships XIX-XX centuries - parts of ships, models, sailor's closes, stories and history - it was interesting.
5. As far as I understand, there are various temporary exhibisions from time to time. May 2012 we saw exhibition devoted to Russian ships that sank off the coast of Finland in XVII century - these ships were full of treasures. Some of findings we represented in the museum.

Some exhibits in museums prepared especially for children.
