“Nature baths”
Reviewed 27 August 2013 via mobile

Near the lake. Much less expensive and touristy than the blue lagoon. Bring your own towel. Locker room has lockers and showers. Drying machine for suit. At least an hour for the warm baths!

“Overrun by tiny bugs - buy a mosquito net for your head”
Reviewed 22 June 2013

You cannot conceive of the number of bugs that will be swarming around your head until you get out of your car in Myvatn. Our advice is to immediately go into the grocery store near the information center and buy yourself a mosquito net to go over your head. We bought some for about $11/each. You look pretty silly but it allows you to enjoy the sights without constantly swatting. They are designed just for your head and include an adjustable neck strap. Those who enjoy roughing it, I admire your stoicism about the bugs, but for us, these made a big difference.

“A convenient stop off from the Route 1 circle”
Reviewed 28 March 2013 via mobile

Myvatn has the lake, several interesting volcanoes and a decent selection of hotels, guesthouses and amenities. The 'recommended' stay in the area is 2-3 days, as part of the 10-14 day Route 1 tour, but 1 day will be enough, unless you plan to hike round the lake or volcano.

“Not worth a stop”
Reviewed 5 July 2012 via mobile

The area is worth driving through but no overnight stay. We were scheduled to stay 3 nights and we got out of there after 1. It is a depressing place. And although there is a like there it is nothing special and the flies are everywhere. The side trip yo the falls is worth it but this place is over rated. We preferred Husavik which is about 30 to 45 minutes away.

“A highlight in our trip”
Reviewed 22 January 2011

The Myvatn area is a must for anyone with enough time to go outside of the capital. The lake itself if beautiful, with many bird life and a newly opened visotrs center in the middle of the lake. But the best parts are found the immediate surroundings. First are the Mývatn Nature Baths, which offer a more peaceful alternative to the blue lagoon, water is warmer, and prices much less steep. Then just over the hill are the amazing Hverarond bubling mud pools and steaming vents. The Hverfell crater also provides a look at a crater formation. To all this places you do not need any special vehicle as all the roads are in good condition.
