Denizkizi & Denizkizi Royal Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 August 2012

We stayed at the Denizkizi Hotel rather than its next-door sister the Denizkizi Royal. Excellent rooms, recently refurbished & modernised by the look of it. Great beach & pool. Breakfast OK but the choices were the same everyday - could have done with a bit more variety. We didn't eat at the hotel, preferring to try local restaurants. There aren't many in walking distance, but those we tried were excellent. It's also easy to get the dolmus into Kyrenia for an evening meal (we got a dolmus back at around 9.15 which may have been the last one of the evening). Our only wish would be for more information in the room about (eg) wifi in the hotel, dolmus services, restaurants etc. We hired a car from the hotel -about £20 per day. Supermarket & cashpoint in easy walking distance. All in all a lovely, friendly, peaceful location.

At the end of a Holiday we ask ourselves would we go back? For this hotel absolutely.
For a family of five we went H/B and did not regret it for the first 2 weeks in July 2012.
What a contrast to last years holiday( see my previous report) where i forgot to mention last year Simena backed on to a brothel and rooms were used in the hotel - i kid you not.
Anyway i digress Deniz kizi Royal was a lovely stay so much so we all want to go back.

BEACH AND POOL AREA
The hotel itself was terrific with its own beach and large swimming pool each with reasonably priced food and drink cafes. All areas were scrupriously clean- staff were constantly cleaning and that really makes a difference both on the beach in the pool areas and in the hotel. The grounds were clean and modern. There was a golf buggy (we never used) to take less able down to the beach if needed. There were Big umberellas - a god send for a shade lover! with wait for it magnificently NO music in the pool area THANK YOU DENIZ KIZI OTHER HOTELS PLEASE NOTE!! Beach towels were provided by the hotel daily-again a nice touch. We loved it so much we did very little sightseeing with the kids never bored.

HOTEL.
We stopped in the royal. To avoid confusion- on the pictures this is the hotel with its own seperate private balconies set further back from the sea. We preferred it for that reason plus the rooms were bigger. We looked in the Denizkizi although fantastically modern and contemporary the rooms were smaller and did overlook the outside eating area. We have legs and the 20 second stroll from the Royal for food and the bar in the Denizkizi was hardly a handicap.Rooms were cleaned every day with daily fresh towels and the beds in our interconnecting rooms were comfy.10lira bought us a safety deposit box in our room. The fridge and TV were very old but we hardly used them.We would stop again absolutely no complaints.

FOOD
Excellent. We were offered sandwiches on our arrival late at night.Breakfast had fresh squeezed orange juice with a widespread selection of cereals ,fruit, hot breakfasts and traditional cypriot breakfasts. All self service with tables cleaned and cleared away immediately. We all found breakfast very good but eaten inside.Evening Meals again excellent eaten outside were varied with salads every night accompanied with a couple of meat dishes and fish. 2 adults and 17yo15yo and 10yo never complained once.It was all good.

SERVICE
Excellent from maids to front desk to waiters to management asking if everything was ok.

LOCATION
NO traffic noise. good for girne supermarket 500yds away main road is100yds for dolmus(bus taxis), Couple of bars within 300 yds suitable for families to sit in garden.Location meant we never hired a car this year-we both like a drink anyway.we got taxis 3 or 4 nights we ate out for something different.

SUMMARY
A great stay and we would go back,Recommended.

Room Tip: Couples definetly would prefer the Denizkizi. We as a family found the royal better suited our needs...

we stayed at the Denizkizi Royal from 24/6 to 8/7/12 on arrival around 21.30 we were helped to our room with our suitcases and advised that a meal had been prepared for us. Food was excellent buffet service which is great for me as I am vegetarian. Hotel lovely and clean. Staff very friendly. Beach is fantastic. Only drawback is when you are eating your meal in the evening on the outside terrace which is a fantastic setting if you sit near to a smoker it can ruin your meal as it seems a lot of people like to eat and smoke at the same time it would be nice if they could seperate smokers and non smokers

Room Tip: we stayed in the Royal as wanted a balcony no problems with noise or anything nice room

This is two hotels adjacent to each other, the beach is superb, with excellent and clean facilities including toilets, showers, changing rooms and beach bar. The same can be said for the pool facilities, the staff are always cleaning and making you feel at ease. We were on a half board basis, breakfast was okay, but evening meals were very well made and presented. It was a buffet type with a chef serving the main course dishes. Ibrahim and Saar stood out as excellent and friendly waiters.
If people go to this hotel for a lively nightlife they will be disappointed, if its relaxation and quiet you want this is the hotel for you. Its approx 5 mls from Kyrenia but that is easily reached by dolmus.

Excellent hotel - beautiful beach - Large Freshwater pool. Everywhere exceptionally clean in the Hotel, grounds, pool and beach. Food was very tasty and plenty of choice at dinner. Breakfast was good as well but could have done with a few more hot choices and more cakes/pastries.
Staff all very friendly and helpful. There was never a problem getting sunbeds either at the pool or beach whatever time of day it was. Will definitely be returning there for another holiday soon.

we stayed at the Royal Denizkizi. On arrival we were met at reception by a small quite unfriendly/unhelpful chap. We are very tired it was around 10.30pm., we asked about food but got no clear answer, no offer to help with luggage, no information about hotel offered - not a good start.... Rooms are a bit tired and needing refurbished. Reception area also needing upgrading.
Food was excellent, rest of staff were great, particularly Ibraham our waiter - he is a credit to them - management please note!
It was a bit of a nuisance not being able to get a drink at the Royal as the bar is in the sister hotel alongside. Beach, pool area and grounds very nice and well kept. Dolmus into Kyrenia was ideal.
I would recommend but think i would sacrifice the balcony for a refurbished room at their other hotel..

I have to be honest , my first impressions were not that good ! it's always the little things in life that either make or break your holiday.
This is the real Cyprus, a place untouched, unlike the southern side which has become ridiculously overpriced and dare I say ......... far too many tourists !
This Hotel really does care about it's guests and although they may get things wrong it would seem they would rectify things very quickly if given the chance.
Food is very good, but not much choice. However, If you are looking for an English Breakfast then stay at home.
The Hotel is set in a very quiet location and the beach is very well maintained. Ideal if you are looking for peace and quiet.
The bad points,,,,,,,
Not the best place for the elderly as getting to the pool or beach is a major task. Beach buggy available to take you down but I should imagine it would be very busy during high season.
Ask for a kettle and you get one with the bill on checking out. Our Kettle rarely worked, we had to ask for cups virtually every other day. If you say you will provide a kettle then at least warn guests there will be a charge, Also put the correct plug on it so it can be used.
Free shuttle service to Niazi's Kebab in Kyrenia ??? We were told by Niazi he would book a table for us but a Taxi would be 25 TL (one way?).
Air conditioning in our room (balcony rooms) not really effective as you would expect.
Bar Staff not serving customers at the table...service needs improving. What about nuts with your drinks? Ok I'm getting too picky now
These points need to be rectified as they are important.
On a positive note we would stay again...but improvement needs to be addressed.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms are better in my view as more privacy. Non balcony rooms are modern but privacy not so...

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to write this review which is very valuble to us.

I am sorry to hear that you found it difficult to access the beach. As you say, we do have a buggy service which is there to help those less able to walk or just prefers to use it. Even during the busy times, we try to ensure that beach access is not a challenge for anyone.

I also apologise for you not being informed correctly about the use of kettle. These are normally made clear to our guests during check-in, however, it is unfortunate that you did not find out until later. Necessary steps will be taken for this not to happen again. Other issues that you have raised will also be brough to the attention of management.

We are looking forward to your next stay with us!
