“Nice hotel in a good location.”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

I have to say that we enjoyed our stay here, however, based on some of the info we had read about this place we were expecting a "bit more". Our rooms were fine and our meals were fine but I don't think they were quite up to our expectations. This place is advertised as a luxury hotel but we have stayed in "country hotels" in Iceland that were much nicer. That being said, we would recommend this hotel and would stay here again if we were ever in the area again.

Our daughter was married on the bridge at the hotel overlooking the fjord. The management and staff were beyond spectacular. The wedding arrangements, the setting and the food were perfect. This is a terrific small hotel not very far from Reykjavik but with the feeling of the country. Northern lights viewing during the winter is supposed to be wonderful.

Great hotel where you feel at home except that an excellent service is providing all you need.

And the hot tubes are amazing, especially the view !

The food is also very good and the breakfast is even better...a must see !
The prices are not cheap but honestly it is not crazy at all comparing to other prices in Iceland ! Furthermore the quality is astonishing and the service is excellent.

When we reached the hotel first impression from the road below was so so!

We couldn’t believe that it’s a place we booked for 3 nights.

After 3 days our conclusion was “Every next day was better and better than first impression!”

Staff very efficient and friendly. Food in the restaurant very good. I had cod fish with strawberry and mint sauce (see picture). Our rooms had two levels with beds on upper level. Very good sleeping comfort. We enjoyed very much hot tubs and swimming pool, in another place, walking distance from the hotel. Many opportunities for hiking, even directly from the hotel. Good choice of TV channels.

Negative? Yes, the upper level in my room. No fun in the mid of night go down to bathroom.

Strong recommendation for the hotel if you visit this part o Iceland.

Although the hotel is listed as in Akranes, it is in fact some distance away and stands above the fjord with some great views.
Despite being fairly recent in build, the decor is a mixture of what appears to be, idiosyncratic 60s and is very quirky.
Unlike other reviewers, we had a room in the hotel. These rooms have 2 levels with the bed on a sort of mezzanine accessed by a steep staircase. Watch out if you get up at night! There is a small sitting area and bathroom on the main floor with very little storage. The hot water smells rather more of sulphur that other hotels. The whole thing was rather cramped.
The restaurant was rather unappealing in decor but the food was very good both in presentation and taste. Fish and lamb dominate the menu as elsewhere in Iceland. The restaurant is expensive particularly the wine, but there is little alternative because of the hotel location. The staff were helpful and cheerful. Perhaps a stay in one of the lodges would give a better room.

Room Tip: Overlook the fjord or maybe a lodge

The view is incredible, the lodge is great. We stayed in the villa romance on our honeymoon. I find it a bit odd that the romance villa has 2 single beds pushed together. The hot tub wasn't working for most of the time we were there which was disappointing. The staff were ok, neither overly friendly or helpful. The food was ok, nothing to shout about.

Though the weather was not the best the hotel made up for it. Great room and cozy hotel. Great service and fantastic dining. Great presentation of food and one of the better breakfasts in Iceland. I would definitely go there again and recommend to friends. One small complaint was sleeping it was kind of stuffy. I only found one small window to have open.

Room Tip: Get a room with the fjord view.
