I went to Laxdalshus by chance with some friends that live in Akureyri. My expectation were quite low but that did certainly change.
The restaurant is in the oldest building in Akureyri, about 10 minutes walk from central Akureyri. The restaurant is very small and is run by a couple, she´s the cook and he's the waiter. The atmosphere in intimate.
The menu is quite small, offering 4-5 starter, 4-5 main courses and 3 deserts. They focus on using local ingredients from Northern Iceland. On the menu was horse meat, lamb, artic char, moules and some other selections.
I had horse carpaccio and moules, my friends had the artic char and horse meat as the main course.
Everything was immaculate. The food was prepared with care and the taste as well as the presentation was very pleasing. They have a small wine selection but the waiter knew everything about the food and how they had prepared it and selected some good wines to go with each course.
In terms of value for money, it is the same story there. The prices are very fair and for the quality of food the value was great.
We are going back in the next couple of days and I recommend that you try this place.
