“Excellent staff!”
Reviewed 15 June 2014 via mobile

My wife and I were on a touring holiday around Iceland and stayed for three nights. The hotel was easy to find and parking for us was not a problem however there is not enough information regarding the parking which almost put us off booking. Firstly there's a small line of free hotel parking spaces outside the hotel to the right of the entrance. In Akureyri you can park in time limited areas but you need a parking card to display the time which was given to us for free at the hotel, and at the weekend parking is not restricted, I think it was from 6.00pm Friday to 10am Monday. The location of the hotel was the best in the area. The staff were the most helpful and friendly hotel staff I have met in Iceland! Unfortunately we didn't eat at the hotel however the menu look very good but maybe a little expensive. The fourth floor sea view made the stay for us as it had a balcony however this is also shared with another five or so rooms but it allows you to have the door open for fresh air but remember to pull the net curtains as people do walk up and down to take pictures of the sea view. The mini bar was excellent and not to over priced. The only negatives would be the lack of TV stations in the rooms however most people are not on holiday to stay in watching TV. Breakfast, good God the breakfast was bad! Just don't bother with it unless you just want toast and coffee/tea, if only it was like the Hilton in Reykjavik. No Skyr yoghurt!, no baked beans, bacon, fried egg, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, cold water for the tea however it did have a proper toaster, not one of those stupid conveyer type's. I am English and we do like a fry up! however even for a continental breakfast which I do enjoy, the selection was very poor. Please take note as I would consider a different hotel if this was not improved :-(

Stayed here as part of a package tour. The room was modest in size by American standards, but larger than the other hotels we utilized in smaller communities. There was a telephone, television, and free WiFi, but no safe. The bathroom was larger than most. Dinner in the hotel restaurant included a Caesar's salad, flavorful cod, and dessert. Breakfast buffet had a decent selection. The hotel is just beneath the picturesque church and a block from the waterfront on the fjord. There is a major shopping street just across from the hotel.

We stayed at this hotel one night, choosing him for the great reviews. From the outside it looks like a modern building situated at the foot of the most important church of the town. Our room turned out to be very spacious and clean. The bathroom was equally spacious and well appointed functional. The staff was courteous. Breakfast the next morning was very filling and well-matched. The only negative note, the heat in the night. Despite being a little typical and very international place overall is very good. Recommended!

The building it self is probably 20-30 yrs old, great sea view to the fjord. Rooms are nice and clean, a little bit small compared with modern hotels but just great for a week. Good, standard breakfast. Good restaurants in same building and just opposite for dinners. City center just outside the door, swimming area with hot tubes just 5 minutes away.

Great location for access to restaurants and shops in the downtown area. The room was clean and comfortable - the heated towel rack in the bathroom was a nice touch. The staff were professional and very helpful. Storing our luggage before being able to check in was no problem. Lovely breakfast.
Comments about parking in other reviews were accurate.

The hotel is nicely located in the center of town. There is very little parking possibilities there. Most parking isis restricted to 1 or 2 hours from 10 am till 4 pm. Since I staey one day and arrived at 3 and left at 11 the next morning I did not have trouble with parking. If you stay more than a day you will have to find a place to park your car.

Room Tip: My room on the fifth floor was very large and had a great view.

We stayed three nights at Hotel KEA in late February, when it snowed every day. The room was clean and fairly large with a comfortable king bed and nice bathroom, but it overlooked the street and not the fjord or mountains. There was a lot of noise from the street. We were within walking distance of many good restaurants and the shopping/tourist district. Parking was tricky during the week as you have to park on the street and update your parking clock every two hours during the day, but luckily weekends and evenings are free from this bother. Overall, it is a fine hotel in a busy urban setting.
