“Great food”
Reviewed 26 June 2014 via mobile

We went into St Foy for lunch and decided to eat in the bistro - it's in the central square and under cover

I had the chicken from the plat du jour whilst my wife had a burger, chosen from a blackboard which was moved in front of our table!!

The food was beautifully presented and tasted good too!

We left well pleased and would recommend this place

“An interesting experience”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

We went in search of the Relais de Moustier (the previous location for the current operators of Bistrot de l'Europe) a few weeks ago, only to learn that they'd relocated to Sainte-Foy-La-Grande. Finally, we were able to sample the fare on Thursday night (in high season they're only open Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights, which is a bit limited).

We strolled up at about 7:15PM to be told that they don't start dinner service until 8. A bit late, but ...OK. We chose to sit inside as autumn has come early here. The decor is fair, but unimaginative. The lighting is too bright, the music was too loud (but that was quickly turned down following a quiet request).

The Bistrot de l'Europe's menu is small. Very small, which is no bad thing. However, when the main courses are:
Burger, or
Andouillette Sausage, or
Piece of butcher's meat, or
Piece of fish

it was more than a bit disappointing to find that there was no fish available. None of the plats du jour from the lunch-time menu were available either. A disconcertingly limited menu, particularly from such well-reviewed restaurateurs.

So, moving on, service was inattentive. The chef was more attentive that his wife, whose duties are front-of-house. The gratin d'oignon was unusually pale and a tad on the sweet side. The terrine de foie gras a little too cold but good when slightly warmer (and missing its "chutney du moment" (had the moment been and gone??)).

However, the 3 "pieces du boucher", which turned out to be entrecote, were very good - cooked to perfection with excellent chips and nicely sauteed mushrooms.
