I wanted to add a little extra after our Iceland tour and before going home, so I picked a cottage. We got a very large and clean room. We really loved the decoration. We tried the restaurant as well (Icelandic food: why do they have to add jam to almost every dish?) which had fine food.
For us it just hit the spot!
PS: with GPS no problem finding the place!

Room Tip: We were travelling on a "Comfort" base, so we took a Cottage. Still think it was worth...

I stayed at the hotel during low season - not many guests which may explain the bad service. Most of the time there's no one at the reception desk which I personally find a bit annoying. The breakfast is poor, it doesn't really taste good.. Also, I found a dirty sock in my room...more focus on cleaning is neccesary. The shower head broke and there is a lot of noise. However, the beds are comfy and the hotel is after all Viking inspired, resulting in an idyllic experience. I personally didn't find the theme of the hotel disturbing, but some might find it too "out of place" or tacky. Even though you visit a hotel during low season, the stay should be equally satisfying. It feels like this hotel experience would have been more pleasant during high season....

Dear Amanda

Thank you for your review.
I´m sorry to hear that you didn't enjoyed your stay with us. Of course everything should be clean and it usually is. I´m very suprised to hear about the sock in the room but everyone can make a mistake and there the cleaning lady have made one. If you would have came to us we would have moved you to another room.

About the reception in the low season, usually someone is always there during the day but in the nights our staff is sometimes helping in the restaurant that is just across the street and we have a night bell that you can ring 24/7 and in few minutes the nightshift is there to help you with what ever you need.

Hope to see you again someday and you can have better stay in our village :)

Best regards,
Birna

I would recommend this hotel for the fun loving traveler who enjoy doing something different. This is a great Viking Theme hotel, complete with a small Viking museum, and large Viking theme restaurants and bar. All staff wear traditional viking garb. All good fun, and only a short bus ride to Reykjavik. Lovely view of the harbour. Me and my partner, Ellen, will definitely be back. See you there!

Stayed here in October 2013. It's a fantastic themed hotel with a great view of the Harbour opposite. Luckily we had an Icelandic friend who lived nearby and helped drive us about. Otherwise the Hotel is a bit away from anything in a quiet area. Would have been a bit isolated otherwise.

Having said that, the bus from Keflavik Airport dropped us right at the Hotel and was very easy to arrange and we went on a tour of the Golden Circle that picked us up and dropped us back at the Hotel. So I guess if you have an itinerary of tours to fill your time, it's a great base.

Dear Nick

Thank you for your review :) always nice to hear when our guests are happy :)

For other guests: Hafnarfjörður is a small town in the Reykjavík area and it only takes you 10 minutes to drive to Reykjvaík city centrum. The bus stop is just 5 minutes walk from the hotel and you take only one bus to get there, the name of the bus is S1. And like Nick said if you want to take some trips then you are picked up at the hotel :)

Hope to see you again someday :)

Best regards,
Birna

I accidentally booked the wrong weekend for my Icelandair stopover deal (highly recommended btw, I use it every time my evil boss sends me to the US!), and didn't want to stay in Reykjavik as it was full of Iceland Airwaves- tourists. So I needed something close by Keflavik but not in downtown Reykjavik; Viking Village was the perfect location.

Greeted by the very helpful (and very cute) receptionist/waiter the check in and late dinner in the next door restaurant went all smoothly. The restaurant food was ok, but if you're a Viking enthusiastic don't expect anything too authentic.

Room was clean, decent sized and the bed wasn't bad at all (somebody was complaining here it was too hard but on an Icelandic scale it was super soft!). Breakfast was better than average, especially the seafood salad sort-of-a-thing was awesome! Sauna was pretty cold for a Finn but should be warm enough for any other nationality...

Hafnarfjordur is a cute little village (well actually it's the 3rd biggest city in Iceland but feels small nonetheless), where you have everything you need and it's conveniently located only a quick and easy bus ride away from both Keflavik and Reykjavik. So if you're not driving for whatever reason (although in Iceland you should) or are just looking for something quiet and away from the city but with all the conveniences, go to Viking Village Hotel.

I led a school group here during half-term and as well as a few hotel guests, there were and additional two school groups there as well. Something to be aware of if you are travelling independently. We had a room in the hotel which, as others have commented, the traffic noise could be heard at all times making sleeping difficult. Our group had 5 of the chalets which were OK. All well heated, but the upstairs - accessed by what can only be described as a steep wooden ladder, was floored with only dry wall. No floor covering. The first room we were allocated had a double bed which was unsuitable so we were moved to another room by a very helpful receptionist. This room had NOT been cleaned so another trip to reception was required. After a long day travelling and a trip to the Blue Lagoon before check in, this was a disappointing start to our stay here. The nearest supermarket was a left turn from the hotel and at the first roundabout. Take a left a this roundabout a go to the end of the block and across the road is a lovely outdoor pool. We enjoyed a trip there. Our breakfast was cereal, toast, cheese, spam and tomatoes - the same each day. We enjoyed our dinner each evening but the dining halls were full of noisy school children. It was a nice location and we had an OK stay there. We found the staff helpful at all times.

Room Tip: Ask for a chalet rather than indoors in the hotel.
