Not sure why they thing water will not flood out a shower with no door in lots of places in Europe. This one is no exception. Had to use 1 of my 2 towels to soak up water after shower. But overall great place with really fast WiFi. Hotel bldg has lobby and coffee. Good hike to restaurant but the food is great with lots of variety Staff very friendly. Most I had no idea what it was til I asked. Beautiful Mtn views from Room 33.

Comfortable, modern room, clean and quiet. Nice bathroom with a walk-in shower. Located in a beautiful setting between the sea and a mountain, so you either get a sea or a mountain view.

Breakfast was included and offered everything except English Breakfast. Try the homemade fish spread, it’s delicious! There are three different buildings - if you are not in the main one, it’s a short walk to the reception (200m), restaurant and breakfast room.

There is an interactive museum about life in Iceland around the 1800s to 1950s in the same building complex; entrance is free for hotel guests. I found the museum very interesting as they built several life-size replicas of farm houses, featured stories of the lives of the farmers and also explained the names of the nearby mountains and valleys.

Staff was also very friendly. We wanted to book a trip for the next day and as there was no telephone in the room, we booked the tour at the front desk. They also gave us good recommendations on what to see and do in the area.

The hotel’s restaurant was also very good, though it only offers about 5 different dishes. I’d recommend the Arctic Char, a salmon-like local fish that the restaurant is known for – fresh & delicious! They also offer vegetarian dishes, as well as local lamb dishes.

The hotel has free Wifi- however, it worked only sporadically and one night, the Wifi was completely down.

Overall, this place is good for relaxing after a daytrip to the glaciers, though it’s a bit pricey.

Rooms were basic, but clean, comfortable, and just a short drive away from the restaurant where there is more activity. Our room was facing the parking lot on ground level, so not the most private, amazing view, but we just closed the curtains.
Dinner meals were very good and service was friendly and attentive. Breakfast is included and basic, but better than other hotels as they had a delicious fish salad and smoked char.

Expensive at 189 euros per night. We only paid the extra £ to stay here specifically because of the great food reviews and turned up to find that the kitchen was close at 9! We had pulled in at about 9.30. Silly for this to be the case during the Summer Solstice when it is bright until midnight and tourists are out enjoying the sights. The room was functional and clean but we were disappointed to have coughed up the extra £ when another hotel would have been fine for sleeping. We didn't have a sea view at this price either...

There are fewer sites between Vik and Hali than the golden triangle, or Selfoss to Vik, but the drive is spectacular across the vast glacial floodplains, particularly as more of Vatnajokull glacier and its ice tongues come into view. This reaches a climax at the glacial lagoon at Jokulsarlon with its small icebergs which float down the river to the sea.
The hotel is only 7 miles beyond the lagoon, and Hali and the hotel are signed and visible just off route 1 to the right. It is possible to drive back in the evening if the light is good, and the tour buses will have gone. The hotel's location is rural and very attractive between the mountains and the coast. The reception, restaurant, and the museum are in the building only a few hundred metres from the road, with the accommodation in three blocks about 800 metres away through the village. There is a path through the fields from the blocks which makes for a pleasant stroll.
The blocks are modern, wooden buildings, with good rooms and a pleasant communal lounge with tea and coffee making facilities. The only thing missing was some outdoor seating. It was a lovely summer day when we were there and it would have been good just to have a bench to enjoy the warm sunshine.
The restaurant operates more indepentently than the other hotels we stayed in. It is on Route 1, and there are other accommodations in the village so it was a lot livelier than other places, which was a nice change. On the night we were there they were under some pressure so although we ordered quite quickly, it was about 40 minutes before we were served. We didn't particularly mind and even more so at the end of the meal when without us complaining they took the price of the desserts off the bill because we had had a wait. That was typical of the service which was friendly and relaxed.
The menu was a bit more varied than other places we ate, and included meatballs as well as the inevitable arctic char and lamb. As elsewhere fresh ingredients simply prepared, with a good but limited breakfast choice.
The museum is free for hotel guests and is well worth a visit. It is obviously a labour of love for a family member who was a notable poet, but it is very well done and gives a good sense of life in Hali, as well as his life in Reykjavik. It added to what was a very enjoyable stay overall. From Hali it is a relaxed drive to Reykjavik. We left at 10am, stopped for lunch, and arrived late afternoon. If Jokulsarlon is as far east as you are going this is a very good choice.

We loved staying here. Our room was very comfortable and warm, absolutely no complaints. There was building work going on while we were there but it did not bother us at all. Perfectly located close to Jokulsarlon. The staff here were some of the most friendly and helpful I've encountered. From the young guys offering the yummy meringue cookies in the restaurant, to the wonderful lady who took the time to look up the road warnings and forecast for us before we left and give us her local knowledge, everyone was brilliant. We also had dinner in the restaurant which was expensive, but absolutely delicious, so we thought it was worth it. Breakfast the next day was also lovely. Highly recommended, and we will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Iceland.
