“Very Good Small Hotel Near Keflavik Airport”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

We opted for a hotel close to the airport because we had an early departure. The hotel picked us up promptly after we phoned that we had our luggage. We stayed two nights with a complimentary space-available early check-in. We were booked into a second floor room, with our excess baggage stored in an available space on the first floor. The queen bed was firmly comfortable with individual duvets. A truly excellent breakfast buffet was provided, with many items remaining available throughout the day. Specific items among many I liked were the pickled herring and the light chocolate cake. There is a very good restaurant across the marina for lunch and dinner. The hotel staff arranged a small car rental for a day at an excellent rate (about 25% of the book-ahead on the web rate as far as I could tell). We were going to skip a car rental until this opportunity came up. The car included a complimentary GPS; just be sure you have addresses to plug into the GPS if there are certain places you want to go. We were taken promptly to the airport with all our voluminous luggage for our early morning departure.

Our flight was very early in the morning so I was looking for a hotel near the airport. Also I wanted to have breakfast and transport to the airport. This hotel is about 4 kilometers from the airport, serves breakfast from 4 am and has an own transport service (big Volvo). Perfect match!

The hotel has a central living room with coffee and tea facilities. It is very pleasant with harbor view and a lot of travel books. The room was quite big with a sofa and multiple chairs. The bathroom was not that big and had a rain shower. Everything was clean.

Breakfast was very good with orange juice, good coffee and tea and Skyr (Icelandic yogurt). The only thing that was a bit peculiar was that there was no staff around breakfast time. Breakfast was setup and then the staff member had disappeared. Because the transport was arranged at 5:30 and there was no staff, I got a bit worried. However, exactly at 5:30 the staff member appeared and brought us to the airport.

The hotel is also a very good operating base for visiting the Blue Lagoon. Because it is mainly used as an airport hotel, guests are up early and can make some noise. This probably applies for all hotels in Keflavik.

Tips for the hotel owner: The drain was unable to handle all the water, so you had to turn off the shower regularly and wait for the water to flow away. Also there was not a lot of space in the bath room to put items (toilet bag) on.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor so you won't hear other guests walk above you.

Stayed there for two nights, and had a delightful time.

They had a heitapottur at a small enclosed deck, and it was open for the guest from early until very late.

When we departed at 05:45, they had breakfast going, just so we could get something to eat before we went to the airport.

Location vs the airport is just perfect, it is a 5min drive, and the hotel is more than helpful with driving you there.

This is a great stop near the airport! Brand new rooms with large bathrooms. Nice beds. Free WiFi. Breakfast is well stocked, and tea/coffee are available 24/7. They have an airport shuttle and plenty of free parking next door.

It's a bit difficult to find, but a GPS is helpful. There's a great Indian/seafood restaurant across the street, so no need to wander far.

We stayed here for our final night before an early flight.

The hotel is clean, comfortable and in a nice quiet spot at the end of town. The staff were helpful and the morning shuttle to the aiport worked perfectly.

We stayed in the split level loft suite. It was nice and light with the harbour views though with hindsight a coventional room would have suited us better - too many stairs in the middle of the night! We had a comfortable night however and the shower was good - all in all it can't be faulted for an airport stopover night.

This is the place to stay if you like being pampered. Free pick-up from the airport, our room was ready at 9 am, our rental car was brought to the hotel, breakfasts are fabulous and are ready starting at 4 am for those who have an early flight. We were even driven to the only store in Keflavik that sells luggage to replace a damaged one.
The hotel is right across the street from a hiking trail overlooking the cliffs and ocean. There is a great restaurant just a three minute walk away. Our room was on two levels, with a view of the Harbour. This place was relaxing, quiet and in a beautiful setting. Kudos to Karolina, her husband and the friendly staff!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of the Harbour.

My second and third stays at the Berg.
As before, great service and staff who bend over backwards to help.
I was on a split trip to Keflavik, staying for a weekend before a road trip further North to go goose hunting, we had to leave a day early as my local host said the geese were in early, I was a little worried about cutting the trip short at short notice, but all was handled beautifully, confirming my opinion that the hotel and its staff cannot do enough to be helpful when asked, on the other plus sign is that the visitor is left in peace when no help is required, a perfect balance.

Even my car hire was taken care of on my behalf when I had to shuffle hire days to sort out the change itinerary, thanks also to Blue Car Hire for their help and understanding.

On my return for the weekend before going home, Blue Car were accommodating in fitting in with my time and requirements, even when things were changed at the last minute, both parties could not have been more understanding or helpful, right down to putting the results of my hunting in the freezer for me before I went home, I hope that the goose that was left with them cooks well!

I will be back next Spring and will be staying at the Berg and hiring from Blue Car again, I cannot wait to sit in that wonderful living area at the Berg again watching the weather roll into the harbour, truly one of the best hotels I have stayed in.

Room Tip: Tell the staff what you want when you book and if it can be done it will be! Upstairs rooms are grea...
