“A great apartment in quiet Keflavik”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

We had a one-day stopover in Iceland en route to the UK from Canada (having toured Iceland earlier on different occasions) and this was our first stay at A Bernhard B & B. We liked the location (a quiet street and not too far from the local swimming pool - high on our list of priorities when travelling with children) and the room (studio apartment for four) was well-equipped, smart, tidy and comfortable in every respect.

The owners were friendly and welcoming - we got a delicious brown-bag breakfast to take away at the crack of dawn in addition to a lovely breakfast in the self-catering studio apartment before leaving for the airport (yoghurt, Icelandic sour milk, muesli, cornflakes, coffee etc). The airport is less than ten minutes away by car/ taxi.

We will definitely book this place again and recommend it to others who wish to stay in Keflavik for some of the their time in Iceland as well as to those who simply want to use Keflavik as a base while touring the south/ south-western region.

Room Tip: The studio apartment is great for a family of four, for a group of friends, or for a couple - young...

The A. Bernhard B&B is located about 8 minutes drive from the international airport, and about 5 minutes walk from the centre of Keflavik and its shops. it is a warm and inviting property, and kept immaculately clean. I occupied a small room on the ground floor, and shared the bathroom /toilet with one other room; this proved to be a very good arrangement, and sharing the bathroom certainly reduced the cost. The bed in the room was very comfortable, and the room's insulation such that it was never draughty or cold. The owners, Arna and Flosi, are wonderful hosts, providing maps, and access to a wealth of material on Iceland. They will also check bus timetables for you, recommend eating places, and so on.
Arna's breakfast spread is quite exceptional for its range and quality. It couldn't be bettered.
One small improvement came to mind while I was staying here. Whilst there is a small desk provided, a small bench on which to to place a case or unpacked things would be useful. There is room for this just inside the door. A couple of extra coat-hangers would also be good.
Arna sent me on my way with a sandwich for lunch, while Flosi drove me to the bus station. This was way above and beyond what one expects of a B&B after only a 2 night stay.
The B&B is modestly priced. Excellent, and very highly recommended.

A. Bernhard Bed and Breakfast is located very close to Keflavik airport - about 5 to 10 minutes by car. There are some shops and restaurants in walking distance (go to Kaffi Duus and try whale steak!) Our room was very clean and spacious with huge bathroom. Breakfast was lovely with some Icelandic dishes and great coffe. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!!!

We spent the last night of a 2 week Iceland honeymoon at A. Bernhard, and absolutely loved our stay! We opted to stay in Keflavik since we had to return our rental car at 8am, and the airport is only 10 minutes away. The location was easy to find and parking is available both next to the B&B and directly across the street. It was very convenient for moving luggage, and cars weren't all crammed in (always nice to have a little extra room!)

We stayed in the apartment, which is a separate house to the right of the main B&B. It was very quiet and in a wonderful location- you can walk to the nearby restaurants and cinema from here. The owner gladly gave us recommendations for food in the area, as well as a map showing the location of the B&B in relation to the food & cultural sights nearby. Breakfast was provided, wrapped up for us in the fridge. As we were leaving at 7:30 am, the breakfast was appreciated and eaten quickly!

The apartment had a full kitchen, bathroom, dining room, and family room on the main level, with a steep little staircase leading up to the sleeping area. We had no trouble with the stairs, but they are definitely the kind you need to walk backwards down since it is steep ( with only one railing on the wall side, the other side is open). iUnder the staircase is a great place to store your luggage. Upstairs had 2 single beds and a double bed, with the double bed back in a little nook with side tables. We loved it- bed was comfy, we were warm enough, and the entire place was very clean. This would be a great place for a family to stay! We didn't spend a lot of time there, as we went to the Blue Lagoon that night and had to get up early the next day, but it was very relaxing.

The apartment did have a small patio out back, although we didn't hang out there during our stay. It also has a large clothes line out back if you need to hand wash any laundry (didn't see a washer in the apartment- not sure if this is available). We used the line to dry our towels and bathing suits from the lagoon, and they were dry by morning. There was a tv and DVD player with a small selection of DVDs to watch- there are no cable channels so I would suggest bringing some DVDs to watch if you want to use the tv.

The apartment is older, but very well maintained. Like the owner said, "its an old house with soul." I thought it had great atmosphere; matched with comforts like free Wi-Fi and the ability to cook, this place was easily my favorite of all the places we stayed in Iceland.

Room Tip: We initially booked the studio because we wanted a private bathroom. We arrived early in the day to...

The bred&breakfast is located in Keflavik near to the airport which is a better distance to the airport if you have an early flight as you would stay in Reykjavik (40km from Keflavik Airport). The room was very comfortable and clean and the owners of the house were very friendly and discrete. Their service was exceptional and they also woke up at 4am to prepare breakfast for us before the flight. We were more than satisfied and can only recommend to stay with them!

Spent 3 nights there in March and couldn't fault it. Rooms well equipt with super fast broadband and flat screen TV. Probably the warmest room I've stayed in which is weird considering it's in Iceland. Hosts recommended places to eat in the evening and breakfast was lovely. They laid on traditional Icelandic foods on the final day which was a nice touch. Have already recommended it to friends..

Well done!!!

Room Tip: Don't be put off it you have to share a bathroom. They keep it incredibly clean.
