Gamla Guesthouse

Isafjördur is worht visiting and Gamla Guesthouse is a great choice. You probably won't get that vaule for money somewhere else.

We had a room with shared bathroom, but in mid June it was like having a private one. But as there are 2 bathrooms on the upper floor, it shoudl be ok also in peak season. The rooms are very neat and clean. Have in mind that there are 2 separate beeds in the room.

The location is great, you will get everywhere within minutes.

I liked the guesthouse - staff was very friendly, breakfast was good, the rooms and the shared bathrooms were clean and sufficient. The only complaints were that we only had single beds (travelling as a couple but did not make a specific request) - you should probably request a double bed if wanted. Beds could be more comfortable.

Since Isarfjördur is a small town, everything is in walking distance from this very decent guesthouse - it is definately no mistake to stay there.

This was one of the better guesthouses we stayed at in Iceland. The location was great, and the house itself was charming. Our room was on the top floor, and the slanted roof meant a few bruises on the head - if you are tall, request another room. It was really nice that the rooms had a sink in them. This made sharing the toilets and showers much easier and more efficient. We never had to wait for the toilet or shower. The breakfast was small but very nice, and included some unique Icelandic foods, as well. Overall, I think it was great value in an expensive place.

Clean, quite, very cheap! Ideal location (in the city center).
Good big kitchen and diner room.
If your aim in Isafjordur is nature (but not a VIP hotels), that one you have to book.
I shall be glad to stay here again!

The room was bit cramped and bed was twin beds for all rooms. The bathroom is shared and basic shower. The breakfast was excellent and service was good, and there were free internet. I would not give 4stars for other countries, but I would give 4 stars in Iceland. I think this B&B is good value for Iceland.

Centrally-located in Isafjordur, largest town in Westfjords. Within walking distance to restaurants, supermarket and other amenities.

Comfortable beds and sufficient showers in the hallway. Receptionist was friendly and check-in was quick.

However, walls are too thin and it was tough getting a good rest as we could hear guests walking up and down the stairs and moving around in their rooms.

Also, curtains were sheer lace which proved useless in summer, where there is eternal daylight. We had to drape our towels over the windows to block out some sunlight.

Breakfast buffet was basic with limited choices.

I would not recommend this place if you need a good rest after driving for a long day.

The price of this guesthouse is on par with most other guesthouses in the summer. That said, rooms are basic, with beds, and a sink for washing up. Toilet and shower amenities are shared amongst the rest of the guests, and you will find these facilities slightly claustrophobic, though it is kept clean.

The breakfast was excellent, with a wide spread of breads, hams and cheeses, and unlimited supply of juices, coffee and tea. This was great considering the long road ahead I had of me, driving through the long windy fjords to the east of Isafjordur. Service is excellent.

Checking-in late however proved to be quite troublesome. The guesthouse is not manned 24 hours. If you are checking in outside office hours, you will need to collect the keys from Hotel Isafjordur in the vicinity. This is no problem if one knows in advance. But otherwise, there is some delay in checking-in, as one heads to the guesthouse, realizes that it is closed, and calls a number upon reading a notice pinned at the door regarding late check-ins, travels to the nearby Hotel Isafjordur for the keys, etc...

Room Tip: The guesthouse is a two-storey building, without lifts.
