“Great value in Reykjavik”
Reviewed 18 September 2013 via mobile

Capital Inn is a really good value for Reykjavik.

I stayed in a four bed dorm and in a private room and both were clean and spacious, the private room being quite large and quiet.

The basement area where the dorms are can be a bit noisy when there are several people chatting in the kitchen/dinning area and if other guests let the room doors slam shut but other than that, even the dorms are a great value.

Capital Inn is a bit of a distance from Reykjavik centrum but there are four busses that stop nearby, one just up the hill (#18), and three others that stop near Kringlan (the mall). Also at the nearby mall you have many food choices, a market to by groceries, a bank to exchange currency, and several specialty shops including an alcohol shop !

You can also take a nice walk (about 30 min) to and from centrum and enjoy the scenery along the way. Nothing wrong with a little excersize on your vacation right ?

I actually like that Capital Inn is out of the city as downtown Reykjavik nightlife can probably get loud in the late evening.

Overall, Capital Inn is really an ideal place to stay in Reykjavik if you want a little less commotion than being in the city centrum.

Also to note that Capital Inn has a full service kitchen where the cook will prepare you a meal from their menu. Breakfast is included in the cost of private rooms and they have a cooler stocked with sandwiches, Skyr, and cold drinks.

If you don't know what Skyr is, book a trip to Iceland and find out !

And book your stay at the Capital Inn. I'll be back for sure

Stayed 7 nights at the Capital Inn.
Lovely staff, clean hotel with a good breakfast. About 20-30 mins walk to Bus station but tours picked up at Hotel. Not far from large shopping centre. (15 mins walk). Good priced restaurant.

Done Iceland on a very tight budget. Booked this hotel as it was cheap and I hoped cheerful, but was amazed, it was fantastic and great value for money. Rooms are basic, but clean and tidy. Breakfast was included in the cost and was actually very nice. Staff were amazing and couldn't help enough. We ate in their restaurant on the first night of a 10 day holiday and struggled to find as good food at reasonable prices, in what is a very expensive country. Staff made us feel so welcome we intend to go back.

Room Tip: Ensure your on the first floor and not facing the road

We only stayed 2 nights which were themselves separate and short but we have no complaints. They let us check-in even though it was 1am by the time we arrived, the beds were comfortable, showers were open rather than cubicles but hot, the kitchen was well equipped and there was a, albeit expensive, restaurant on site. In the hall are lots of leaflets of things to do and it was a 20 minute walk to the central bus station which is where most of the trips depart from.

Friendly staff in a big and bright hotel. Location is a bit out of the way but has plenty of parking if you have a car. Breakfast is really good, great way to start your if you plan to do lots of hiking and exploring. Really helpful at organising tours.

Nice for the price, but if you are looking for a quiet place to rest at night this isn't it. The highway is close and the doors are heavy (a lot of slamming and jarring our room!). Two showers/WCs for the whole floor wasn't enough either. Other than that, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful, the rooms were very clean and the breakfast buffet was nice. It's also well located.

Room Tip: Try to get a room where the highway is not next to the window!

The rooms are good, overall the place is well kept up and the staff extremely helpful. Termal bathing (seaside) just 15 mins walks away. Breakfasts are basic, and the speedway a bit too close (noisy), but overall I'll come back when vising iceland again.
