Backpackers has a great location and an incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. They have free lockers (with deposit), and nice amenities - all the bathrooms, showers, etc are private, and there is a kitchen and roof terrace. The daily rate is also decent.

The downside is that there aren't really places to socialize apart from the bar, and the bar tends to be filled with people who aren't staying in the hostel. And it closes at 1. So it's not really that easy to meet other backpackers, apart from chance encounters in the kitchen and common space near the terrace. My friends and I did end up meeting other people and spending time with them, but Backpackers does not have nearly as much of the community as I was hoping for.

Room Tip: There isn't much to be gained from staying in a larger room apart from cost savings - they'r...

I stayed in the guesthouse and had a great little room. Reception was great and super helpful. My room wasn't ready when I checked in, which was a bit of a bummer as I was super tired after my flight. But they apologized and got the room ready ASAP. Only really big downside was the loud music that was being played from the whiskey bar next door. No matter how exhausted you are, it's still hard to fall asleep listening to death metal.

The hostel is pretty much in the center of Iceland's capital. As we checked in quite late we got good rates. So it was a real bargain. The room was tidy with not much in there. But then, what do you really need in a downtown hostel? Staff is friendly and knows where to eat and party!

I really enjoyed my stay and its central, yes had to hire the duvet but I stayed a week so that was ok.. it was also good quality and warm. The kitchen is 'tired looking' and very small.. only enough room for four to either prepare or cook food.. cosy or awkward depending on your point of view, no kettle? had to boil water for a coffee in a pan.. and considering the high prices in town, that was a bit naff. It would have been good to have the free wifi in all the rooms.. (works well in the bar and acceptable on the next floor up) Most hostels I stay at do these days.. There’s a sign on the wall saying ‘we are there for you all the time‘.. well no, not if you can’t manage small but important details.. Overall it’s a great place to stay but it could be better

All staff except one girl from reception were nice and friendly, although you have to start the conversations first otherwise they don't really talk to you. Twin rooms at the back were clean and quiet from the noise of the clubs on the front, however once you visit the bathroom just next door you can hear the music and talking until the early hours. Was not told that blankets were included with twin rooms so arrived with sleeping bag, would have been useful to know so that I could have had more room in my backpack but never mind, also rooms had just a bed and small side table, nowhere to hang your coat or put you stuff if you're staying a few nights . Bathroom was clean even tho a bit dated, however it was not private!!! My biggest criticism, the window had a tiny strip of blurred glass, the rest was clear and rooms opposite can look right into the bathroom and see the toilet and shower so I was not impressed at having an audience whenever I needed a shower. When people come and go at night and use computers in the rooms above you can hear everything so it was a bit noisy but this didn't happen many times luckily. Expensive for a hostel however once you realise the prices of everything else here it seems about right. I would stay again if I needed a cheap few nights but if you want something a bit more quiet and private then I would look elsewhere. Location wise everything you need is a just 2 minutes walk away. Overall, not bad but also not great.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back and take your own towel, maybe a bikini for a private shower.

Good location and nice staff. Nevertheless there is some crazy things about this hostel I'd like to point out. Is hard to believe that in such a cold place like iceland blankets and duvets are considered an extra. Iceland is not Cuba, therefore both blankets and duvets are essential. You really get to think they're fooling with you. It's also important to mention that rooms are not soundproof which is also annoying since the hostel is located within reyjkavik's nightlife main district.

We had a private twin room which was clean and on the top floor (4th with no lift). We stayed here for 5 nights and it was a comfortable stay. In the week its quiet,at the wkend you have to join in the party as its loud until around 2am. The kitchen and bathroom are cleaned daily but as they are old and used a lot ( there is only a small kitchen for the whole building) so they do feel a bit grim. The best thing about the hostel is the staff who work on the reception.they are extremely helpful, nice and polite!
