Description: Baejarins beztu pylsur (English: The best hot dog in town) often shortened to simply "Baejarins beztu", is a popular hot dog stand in central Reykjavik, Iceland. In August 2006, the British newspaper The Guardian selected Baejarins beztu as the best hot dog stand in Europe. The majority of Icelanders have eaten at Baejarins beztu. It's downtown near the harbor and has been open since 1937. Foreign visitors are often brought to the stand to introduce them to the hot dogs there, which are often called "the Icelandic national food." Among famous people who have eaten at Baejarins beztu are Bill Clinton, former president of the United States, and James Hetfield, vocalist of the popular heavy metal band Metallica. A hot dog condiments include ketchup, sweet mustard, fried onion, raw onion and remoladi, a mayonnaise-based sauce with sweet relish. Hot dogs are often ordered with "the works," i.E., All condiments, or in Icelandic "eina med ollu".

You have to stop by here at least once on your trip to Reykjavik. Eating out is an expensive affair in Iceland, so when you find a place that's cheap, take advantage of it. The dogs are about $3.40USD. They are served in a warm bun with various sauces on it. It is sweeter than how we serve American hotdogs, but still good. There are some tables that you can stand at, but no chairs. The service is fast and courteous.

After arriving in Reykjavik, we needed a quick lunch/snack and wanted to check out the famous hot dog stand. Luckily the line was not too long and we were able to sample the hot dogs. They were quite tasty and the toppings and sauces added a bit of flavor and flair. We also stopped by the stand on the way home from dinner on our last night. It's a quirky little place and worth checking out. The flavor is good and the dog has a lot of bite. Also, a good affordable option in a city that can be quite pricey.

This is THE place to go if you want a real hotdog. Reykjavik´s most popular fast food joint, which doesn´t look like much.

They only serve the hotdogs but they sure are good. I always go there whenever I visit Reykjavik.

Great street treats on Day 1 in Reykjavik! And enjoyed while standing in a light chilly drizzle! Coming from Chicago, and loving the iconic super-dawgs (best enjoyed in top-down convertible on sunny day), we put the Icelandic special up for comparison. And it fared very favorably! This is a tiny walk up stand, easily found by the lines out front. Fortunately, the counter guys work really fast and our hotdogs with everything, and drink to share, were ready before my credit card was! Total for two, $6.66. We liked the crispy onions at the bottom of the bun, the parallel stripes of mustard and gravy(?) on top. We heard hotdogs were made of lamb, but they tasted very traditional.

I'm not a hot dog fan, at all, so being told to go here was a bit 'I don't know ....' on my list.

The toppings make I worth it and it's cheap (rare for Iceland!)

I'm happy with my decision to try it. I even had two because the toppings were good!
