“the BEST hotel!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014

I couldn't rave any more about this hotel. I found it on hotels.com, and it was simply a dream come true!
1. friendly personnel - there is a helpful, courteous and responsive person at the front desk 24/7;
2. convenient location - this small hotel is located within a short walk of any place you want to be within the city; it is the perfect base; and
3. ideal - the hotel is affordable, clean, and well-appointed!

The larger chain hotels are situated outside of the city (tourist) center. Therefore, the location of the RRH is plum! We were able to walk to/from old harbor for our cruises and Gray Line for transport to/from the airport. In fact, the location is so ideal that it is ridiculous! There is no necessity to drive within this part of the city that tourists want to explore.

The hotel is a historic building that has been updated. It is comfortable and has welcoming amenities. From the cozy seating area across the front desk, the computer bank with tourist information and brochures, to the well-provisioned kitchenette with complimentary breakfast items and beverages. [Alcoholic beverages come with a reasonable charge.]

Our room kitchenette was supplied with dishes and silverware, a small stove top with pans, a coffee maker and really anything a kitchenette should be stocked with.

There is a table/seating area, and also a day-bed-type chair across the bed. [Mind you, the other rooms may have different layouts depending on the bed size and square footage available.] Our room came with two beds on the main floor, facing the street. I was a bit concerned that the street would be noisy; it was not.

All-in-all, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

My husband and I arrived at the Reykjavik Residence Hotel on the morning of Friday, March 21.
The young man at the desk was kind and even though he made it known that check in was techniclaly later in the day, he told us that the studio room which we'd reserved was already prepared so he allowed us to check in early and showed us to our room. I learned that the Residence suites were actually closer to the town square, bank, harbor and most of the restaurants, but I was fine with where we were. This location was also easily walkable to those areas. We were able to walk the whole area - Harpa, restaurants in the evenings, Sun Voyager, the harbor, flea market, etc - whenever we were not on a tour.
We stayed on the third floor and the room was very comfortable. It wasn't super large, but the space was adequate for the two of us - we both like to spread out a bit, but we made it work. The room was furnished with two bedside tables with two fairly deep drawers, a wardrobe, two straight back chairs, a drop down table, an upholstered chair, 2 ottomans, and a coffee table under the wall mounted television, in addition to the bed. They also provided an ipod-type player.
The bed was two twin beds pushed together, but that wasn't bad either. The mattress was more like a foam mattress rather than innersprings - which was fine. There was only a bottom sheet on each bed made of jersey knit (soft) and the top cover was a duvet cover with a down comforter inside. The towels were of good weight and handled the water nicely.
The bathroom had a tub with a hand held shower which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm glad we didn't have one of those showers without a stall that wet the floor all over that I'd read about. You do smell the hot water, but it was not extremely strong and it doesn't linger. The worst part was when washing my face because the smell was then right near my nose.
We didn't hear any noises. Occasionally we'd hear the next room talking, but they were not being loud. Some remodeling going on across the street from our window, but never heard any banging.Street work on the sidewalk at the corner, but no problems. Traffic flows freely in front of the hotel.
All-in-all, we had a pleasant stay at the Residence Hotel. Most of the people were very warm and accommodating.

Room Tip: 3rd floor rooms have doormer windows and slanted outside walls, including in bathroom tub area. Tub...

I do not have one negative thing to say about this hotel. It was clean, great location, friendly staff. The Residence Hotel made our stay in Reykjavik that much better! The breakfast tray that was provided was more than enough. Each afternoon a new tray was put in the fridge. Also, cartons of orange juice and milk were provided. My husband and I will be staying here again if we ever go back to Iceland.

The location is perfect just back from the Main Street you can walk everywhere within minutes yet you don't have the noise of revellers through the night. More than comfortable, excellent service, fantastic facilities. We'd stay time and time again. Just wish we'd had longer to enjoy the room we were so busy seeing things we only returned to sleep.

Hverfisgata 21 (not 45): Third floor (top floor), room 810, (only 10 rooms) large double bed, large bath, larger shower, spacious apartment and great staff. Fridge, coffee machine, pots, pans etc. Everything you need if you wanted to eat in.

Very central, quiet and everything we wanted was between 1 - 8 minutes walk from the front door and the max wasn't further than 15min. The larger airport bus connects seamlessly with a smaller bus at the bus station, which then dropped us off, and upon departure, picked us up, right at the hotel.

Room Tip: Tip: Most shops close at 18:00 (6PM) so unless you want to pay about twice the price for items at 10...

We loved the Reykjavik Residence Hotel. It's quiet, cosy, comfortable and has a friendly vibe. Very centrally located so you can easily walk to restaurants, bar, shops in a couple of minutes. We arrived to find we'd been given a free upgrade. The room was large, lovely and warm, with plenty of windows for fresh air, plus a skylight, the TV has some UK channels, the usual iron, kettle, toaster and safe, also a large fridge with complementary milk and OJ. The bed was huge and comfortable. The hotel has free wi-fi, the staff are friendly and able to help with all your tour bookings, restaurant suggestions and reservations.

The only downside - a couple more clothes hangers would be helpful and the shower was a little on the small side, other than that everything was lovely and very highly recommended.

Re. the tours - the blue lagoon was fabulous, the geysir/gulfoss tour was great, but you don't get much time at each location and the northern lights tour - well just do your weather research in advance, they will still run the tours even if there is almost zero chance of seeing the lights so pick your night wisely!

We had a wonderful stay in a very spacious one bedroom suite at this lovely hotel which is the former residence of the prime-minister of Iceland. Staff was ready to help us however they could. A beautiful breakfast basket came every morning with ham, cheese, tomatoes, yogurt and delicious fresh baked bread was left at our door to accompany our meal. We could have dined all day on this sumptuous morning feast. Though we never cooked in our suite, we could have.
