Everything you need is here.
The staff works hard in keeping the place clean. The front desk area has books and brochures and they will book all your trips. Pick up is right outside the door.
Bonus supermarket right up the street. Breakfast is good and they have local bands play most nights. The outdoor patio does get loud late evenings so wear earplugs if you have an early start.

Every corner of this hostel is a visual treat. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the dorms were clean and sufficiently spacious. I really recommend lunch at Kex too - both the burger and the pulled pork & cabbage dish were delicious!

I went for some nights in this hostel: the building is an old cookies factory. It's very big. The bar/restaurant is beautiful and good, it's impossible stay here without drink a good pint of viking! Rooms are clean. a Little bit noise. Staff super!

Some of the staff were pleasant. Maybe these employees aren't paid and stay and eat in exchange for their terrible customer service. Wifi goes down a lot. A lot of foreigners working at the hostel who don't seem to care about the guest's experience. It's like they're 'too cool to care.' Washrooms are dirtier than a lot of public toilets I've seen and simply wiped down each morning. No duvets were provided even when paid for in additional charges. The decor and bar atmosphere is great, too bad the bar shuts down 2 hours before other bars closeby. Location is awesome, great view if your on the right side. Close to 101 area and the fresh smell of dominoes pizza greets you as you approach the front door. Good about security. Overall an affordable option in expensive Reykjavik but don't expect an overly friendly experience.

Kex hostel has everything any traveller would want. You know that they have thought it through properly when they give out free ear plugs! We were booked into a 16 bed dorm for £12 a night. Sounds expensive for such a big dorm but thats Iceland. I loved this place. Whether I am chilling with a book in the quirky seating areas or drinking a Viking beer at the lively bar; it is an ideal stay. Solo, groups and families would all feel comfortable.

Room Tip: I presume the bar gets a bit noisy if you are staying on the first floor. We were on the 2nd floor and heard nothing.
