Great hotel, very clean, very central location (hence the name), extremely friendly staff always willing to make your stay more pleasant. We had no issues with any noise and slept great. We stayed here 5 nights. The bar downstairs, Micro Bar, has a great selection of Icelandic microbrews on tap as well as dozens of bottles of local & imports.

We stayed here for 3 nights in March 2013. (midweek). We were intially taken to another hotel with similar name by insistant coach driver and thankfully we had seen pictures on trip advisor so knew it was wrong one!

It was nice to be greeted by English speaking guy on reception. He was very helpful and friendly throughout our stay, helping us by making telephone calls to confirm pre-booked trips and giving advice on dining, site seeing and shopping.

We asked for a room on high floor in advance as had heard it can be advisable to avoid street noise from clubs. I am pleased to say this request was met and we had a lovely clean room on the top floor of this small hotel. The room was perfectly quiet and there was no noise during the week except from the odd novel plane flying inches from the window from nearby domestic airport. This was not frequent and not a problem btw!.

The room had twin beds (though a bit on small side if you are large!), radiators you could choose to turn on or off yourself for a change which was nice, kettle and tbags/coffee (you will need to pinch some milk from coffee station in reception). There was a small mini bar and good size tv. (only one English channel available which we did ask to be looked at to no avail but hey ho you dont come away to watch tv so never mind!). The Bathroom was spotless and there was a hairdryer in bathroom. Our only small issue with room was although it did look nice to have alcove from stairs between bedroom and bathroom, one does need to be cautious when spending penny in night or it can hurt your head seriously at a minimum! Think Health and Safety would probably ban that in UK lol

The hotel had a gym which we didnt try. The self service breakfast had a good selection. Would be good if open a little earlier for days with early trips/early airport return but just a suggestion.

The Hotel also had a small bar. This was our only complaint. One evening we went down for a drink and were refused entrance. There was a piece of paper stuck to the door announcing a private function. Apparantly the Manager was enjoying a beer tasting private party with locals. We thought it was wrong that there were no other facilities available for paying guests and we were not advised it was to be closed beforehand. We were permitted to enter and buy a drink to take out. Apart from the fact that we felt eyes glaring at us as if we were lepers we were told there was no lager and no brandy for the 2 drinks we asked for! This was a little disappointing but not end of the world. It happens.

The hotel was in a great location in the centre of the town. There are plenty of places to eat and drink within stones throw. It is worth pointing out that everything seemed very pricey in Iceland full stop. 2 drinks in the bar were between 12-15 GBP equivalent so be prepared to stay sober! In fairness the prices in nearby off licence were also a lot more expensive than UK so not hotel at fault.

I would definately recommend this hotel, if just for its location alone. It was quite pricey but that is the norm for a City location and it is great to be in such good spot. The fact it is only 2 years old and very clean with good breakfast makes it ideal for a short break to Iceland.

Would I recommend? Yes at the right price, midweek only.

We stayed for a long weekend in February, hoping to see the Northern Lights which unfortunately we didn't manage to catch. The hotel is in an excellent location in the heart of Reykjavik, which is a relatively small city in comparison to UK cities. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and the main shopping street and major sites are a pleasant stroll away.
The hotel itself is great! Spotlessly clean and superbly run. The staff are friendly and helpful and will book trips for you and point out places to visit.
The rooms are lovely; we were not expecting anything so luxurious for the price we paid. Again they are immaculate, clean and tidy. Good range of toiletries and a superb power shower. British channels on TV are a little plus when you come back to your room to unwind. Yes the hot water smells of sulphur but this is the case all over and you get used to it quickly.
The micro bar down stairs is a must, I'm not a beer drinker but enjoyed trying some of the locally brewed ales.
Yes you can hear partygoers of a weekend but then isn't this the case in most city centre hotels?

A very good hotel in a great location!

Just returned from beautiful Iceland and we had a great stay at City Center. Rooms were spotless, comfortable and the staff were very helpful and completely fluent in English. They assisted with restaurant bookings, directions, heck they even went out of their way to pay my parking ticket for me.

The breakfast was pretty decent and the location is --as the name says--central.

You will have to park on the street (which was free from 6 pm to 10 am) or there is a parkade nearby (if you want to park during the day). If you are driving, and using 'sat nav', be aware that there are lots of hotels in Reykjavik with similar sounding names to City Center Hotel which is confusing. Also, I found that the sat nav lied to me a lot in Reykjavik and was generally unnecessary once out on the open road.

Just a comment about sound. The hotel is on a street with lots of bars and general good times, there is a bar on the ground floor in fact. Some people staying on the second floor (where I was) might find the noise from the street below a problem while staying at City Center...i might if I hadn't brought ear plugs and wasn't so blissed out from the Blue Lagoon...

As the name would indicate, the City Center hotel is very centrally located and yet our room was quiet for sleeping at night. The service was very good and we found the front desk to be very helpful in answering our questions and effectively acting as a concierge. The room was clean, but very tiny and awkward for two suitcases. We had a twin room and the beds are definitely twin size (not double). Our "superior" room (#504) did not have a bath and just a note of caution that the water smells like sulphur in Iceland. The balcony doubled as a refrigerator since there was not one in the room. The room heater was tricky to manage, but the heater in the bathroom worked really well. The free WiFi service had good connectivity.

We didn't choose the breakfast option, but the hotel is situated across the street from a 24-hour market which was ideal for picking up skyr, water (though you can drink tap water in Iceland), licorice/snacks, and the like. There is a decent bakery around the corner as well.

The hotel is also very near an office for VAT refunds which was ideal for getting VAT approvals (depending on the purchase, you may need to actually get the refund at the airport, but that was super easy and fast!). It is very near a main post office for those who still like to mail postcards, close to restaurants, and just around the corner is a darling little coffeeshop (Stofan Cafe) for a late night cup of cocoa and chocolate cake!

Room Tip: Rooms away from the street are quieter.
