Stayed for 3 nights at this hotel and we were very pleased with our choice. Excellent location - within walking distance to shops, attractions and restaurants, including the famous hotdog booth!
Rooms were reasonably sized and very clean. Big bathroom with nice water pressure and hot water in the shower. The hotel provided tea making facilities, free wifi, slippers and bathrobes. There was both day and black-out curtains provided which is very useful as it was almost 24h day light in the shower. Rooms were well insulated, and they even have two heaters (one next to the room window) and one in the bathroom to keep one nice and warm after shower. We stayed at 501 which came with a small balcony, and at 502. Both rooms were on level 5 and were quiet even with the windows partially opened. Breakfast was not bad, with some hot dishes included. In our trip to iceland, we realized some of the hotels don't serve hot dishes at breakfast.

The staff at reception and restaurant were really nice, efficient and genuine. Flybus provides airport transfers to and fro this hotel.

If you have a car, finding a carpark lot may be a bit of a problem though, especially on weekends, as this hotel is in the city centre.

We will definitely stay at this hotel again if we go back to Iceland.

Room Tip: Rooms on keve

There is a lot that is good about this hotel. The location is very central, in the historic part of Reykjavik but within easy walking distance of the city centre and just around the block from the airport bus terminus (though make sure you get the 'Gray Line' bus as the other one stops much farther out).

Breakfast was well-organised, totally self-service, with a big choice and very tasty bacon and sausages as well as scrambled and boiled eggs. The bar is peaceful during the week and has a vast choice of Icelandic, Belgian and other beers. Our room was spacious with a good view over the park and houses.

But all was not perfect. Even with our getting a room on the top floor at the back we still heard a lot of noise from the park during the night before a Bank Holiday (and it's presumably the same or worse at weekends). There was no air conditioning and the sun was shining in all day and all evening, so we had to leave the window slightly open at night, which means you hear a church bell tolling every 15 minutes throughout the night as well. Surprisingly there were also no blackout blinds or room safe, and the shower drained poorly. We were not asked on leaving how our stay had been, so the hotel has not had this feedback direct.

On balance I've given a 4 as it was all basically fine, but only just.

Room Tip: High up and at the back is quietest, but even this can be noisy

When I the taxi pulled up to the hotel I was a bit worried but as soon as I walked to the door this worry changed into a positive experience. Smooth friendly genuine check-in, unique comfortable room (although small), excellent bathroom, fast steady free internet, good desk to work at and best of the perfect location in the city. PS, check out the beer bar downstairs, great selection and good flavor beers.

Room Tip: the rooms at the front are more noisy with the bars across the street.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in a 6 night stop over in Iceland, New York to London and our experience was very positive. This hotel makes an excellent base for experiencing Reykjavik because it literally is so central and is such an easy walk to all that this city has to offer. We are mature travellers and now appreciate that a hotel has to offer a clean comfortable bed and a relaxed safe atmosphere and this hotel met that requirement. Yes, the room was very small and we had to be a bit creative in storing our luggage but the positives outweighed the negatives. Our flight arrived very early and although we could not access our room at that time we found the reception very understanding and very welcoming and friendly - in fact, I would say that the reception is one of this hotels greatest assets. We were directed to the breakfast area and although we had planned to "try" other outlets this breakfast proved to be so convenient and value for money that we ate there for the four mornings. We were picked up from the reception area for several tours so we had the opportunity to view other accommodation locations and reached the conclusion that our hotel was in the best location especially if you wanted to access supermarkets, gift stores, coffee shops, restaurants, snack foods, concert hall, harbour and pond walks, museums and Old Harbour "heritage" housing walks. (We had pre-booked and treated ourselves to a waterfront hotel to return to after a 2 day tour to the South Coast at twice the cost and were very sorry we had paid that decision. )

This is Iceland - don't come expecting your chain hotels - enjoy the country for what is - we loved it !

Room Tip: We did not stay on the weekend so noise mentioned by other travellers was not an issue. We were on t...

On arrival we were allocated a room on floor 2 but due to reviews on TA asked for a different floor and were given floor 4 ( for a €100 fee for our 4 nights ) at the front of the hotel overlooking the square, as our check in was being processed an irate group who had also been given rooms on floor 2 demanded relocation as they weren't happy - we never saw what was wrong with floor 2 but our 4th floor room was modern, warm and basic but clean. We did hear some noise on one evening from revelers in the square but nothing too disturbing. The reception staff were always very helpful. The breakfasts a plentiful buffet with delicious porridge and amazing flapjacks.

We stayed at this hotel as a group on February 28th to March 4th, 2014. There was about 10 of us staying at the hotel, and it proved to be a great place for the group to be based. Initially impression was mixed, as we arrived late on a Friday night, and the Microbar on the main floor was not only packed, but the people were overflowing into the lobby. It was loud. The microbar does stop serving at 12am, and people generally leave at 1am. Apart from that, everyone had a pleasant stay in the hotel. The staff was very helpful with arranging rides and excursions. A couple of the rooms were smaller than others, but this didn't matter much to us. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Iceland.

Room Tip: - If staying on the weekend, request a room on the top floors at the back of the building. These are...
