“Made the already amazing trip even better”
Reviewed 1 March 2013

We stayed at Hotel Borg for 11 nights. The room was spacious and very comfortable. We booked the suite, however I did take a peak in the other rooms which appeared just as nice. Very warm and inviting décor in both the lobby and rooms. We were lucky enough to be there for the opening of the new restaurant, which is phenomenal! The hotel staff really did cater to us during our stay and prior to as well. They assisted with restaurant suggestions and reservations as well as day plans. Members of the staff both helped us find additional things to do as well as avoid activities or places that may have been a waste of time. Laundry service except on weekends, internet, housekeeping, all up to par and exceeding expectations in most cases. A very nice perk is location. Many great restaurants within walking distance and being located right on the square, plenty of pubs as well. There is a clock tower located next to the hotel that chimes every 15 minutes. For me, it was relaxing and reminiscent of my childhood, but if it not for you the windows are good quality, so just close them and you won't hear a thing. A truly wonderful and relaxing place to stay.

Room Tip: The clock tower is visible from the west side of the building. That is also the side facing the squa...

Stayed this past weekend (February 23-25). I have stayed at 3 hotels in Reykjavik now, and this is most definitely the most comfortable and the most elegant, with its original Art Deco motif and convenient downtown location in Old Town, close to so many great restaurants and interesting sites. The staff is impeccable in their overall usefulness and politeness. The room is the cleanest, most comfortable I have stayed in. Room rates were comparable to the other hotels, and the price seemed reasonable. Breakfast cost extra, but internet was included. The negatives about the stay were that the internet was down for many hours (but the staff was dealing with it) and that you cannot get away from the hardiest partiers when the partiers are determined to be as loud as possible at 4 a.m. on Saturday mornings. Reykjavik is renowned for its partying, but the room I stayed in was far enough away from the noise so that I was able to close the window and get to sleep. However, speaking of the window, as with other hotels in Reykjavik, the window only opens a few inches. These are the only windows I have come across in Reykjavik, however, that are double-paned to give protection against the cold and the noise, presumably. In the large and comfortable breakfast room the next morning, I heard a lot of complaining about the noise, and was glad I had asked for a quiet room, facing away from the street. My view was not necessarily stupendous (I have had better views when staying farther up the hill, closer to Hallgrimskirkja, looking down to the harbor) but I could see the top of Hallgrimskirkja from my window, so that was okay. My room looked down into the common area of other buildings, nothing to write home about, but at least it was a quiet room, which, considering it was Saturday night in the big city of Reykjavik, that's saying something. Breakfast was good, but not great, and I literally could not eat the dried apricots. Someone has to let the staff know that when you leave the cover open on dried fruit, it becomes inedible. Aside from that, it was fine, just not stellar. However, the location is superb, the Art Deco authentic, and the overall hotel experience truly the most professional and best I have experienced so far. I will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I asked for a quiet room away from the elevator. I was given 418, which faces away from the square...

Fine hotel in a good location but a bit worn out and tired. They did not disclose to us that their restaurant is closed and under heavy construction. We would have appreciated this information.
Breakfast service in the bar is a joke. Walk to bakery two blocks away. Better yet, the Radisson Blue is literally across the street in a slightly better spot, and offers full amenities.

The primary purpose of a hotel is somewhere to stay overnight. Inherent in this proposition is the ability to sleep. This is rendered impossible for anyone staying at Hotel Borg on either a friday or saturday night, designed as this hotel is with a bar (licensed till 1am) at one end of the ground floor, and a nightclub (licensed till 5am) at the other.

If you are going to Iceland to enjoy the nightlife, then this chic, stylish hotel is well located with friendly staff.

If you have any ambition to get more than 3 hours sleep a night look elsewhere. For reference, the receptionist offered me a different room. twice. but you just cannot escape the bass.

Room Tip: rooms in other hotels are quieter.

We stayed at The Borg from 10th-16th February, 2013. No hotel is faultless, but the staff could not have been more attentive, helpful and caring. The restaurant was being refurbished during our stay, so they used the bar next door as a temporary breakfast room. The breakfast was very poor, and certainly not value for money. The hotel accepted our complaint however and kindly refunded the cost for the one and only day we used it. There was also a mix up for the timings for the transfer to the airport. Once again the the hotel staff made sure we got to the airport in plenty of time. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Everything else about the hotel was excellent, and the location in the city is perfect. We would not hesitate to stay at The Borg again, and certainly recommend it.

I'm writing this review at 4 a.m. after a second night of little or no sleep. Why? Because there is bar / club below the back of our hotel which has been thumping out loud, bass-intensive music plus associated 'human' noise since before midnight.
It appears the Reykjavik authorities condone this activity since clubs can stay open until 4:30 a.m. (apparently, until recently, it used to be even later!) with few restrictions other than observing liquor licensing laws. Despite the hotel's occasional complaints to the police, they seem not to be able to limit the clubs' activities.
We have been told that we are in one of the better areas of the hotel to minimise noise levels - 5th floor, room 519 - and that lower floors on either side of the building are just as bad and, implicitly, worse!
It seems the disturbances are limited to Friday's and Saturday's and we can confirm this. We arrived on a Tuesday and the first 3 nights were quite peaceful.
It's a shame that the hotel is blighted by this noise problem but, given our experience, we would certainly never visit this hotel again on a stay involving a Friday or Saturday!

Room Tip: There seems to be no escape from the noise but, on a weekday, the upper floors at the back of the ho...

The reception was very helpful and the location was right in the middle of the city so it is very easy for us to go anywhere especially reykjavik is such a small cozy town. Unfortunately, the housekeeping was amazingly lazy, he or she basically just make our bed only. We stayed there for about 10 days and there were days where there were no towels, shampoo and shower soap! Everything else i. The room was left as we leave it there. The cups that were used were not replaced or washed! They were just left there for us to wash ourselves! The best housekeeping was the day before we left where the housekeeping standard is what it should be; changed towels, new cups, things were properly placed. Other than the lazy housekeeping, its a good place to stay.
