This hotel looked impressive from the outside and just as impressive inside. Very elegant 1930s design. Our room was on the top floor overlooking the square. Can’t fault the room at all. The staff were welcoming and genuinely pleased to see us. Easy for accessing the old town of Reykjavik. The breakfast (which was included in the price) was a buffet, but plenty of choice. We only had one evening meal in the restaurant but this was a traditional Icelandic Christmas buffet, again a plentiful assortment to choose from. Due to cloud cover we were unable to see the Northern Lights so we are planning to return to Iceland next year and I will be booking the Hotel Borg again. Would I recommend this hotel, YES I would.

first impressions always count and this hotel made a very good start!
Very elegant 1930s design and welcoming staff who were immaculately presented and unlike so many place genuinely pleased to see guests arrive.
For accessing the old town of Reykjavik you could not be better placed with most of the sights within a short and easy walk.
We only had one evening meal in the restaurant once but this was a lovely traditional Icelandic Christmas buffet -- be daring eat all the items -despite what some of them look like!
Pricing in line with good quality London restaurant and this theme followed throughout all places we ate at.
A must see is the hallsgrimmkirja church -- even if you are not religious the space and design is jawdropping!
A real service highlight of the tour was buying a handmade ring at Gold and Silfur in the main shopping area -- made to measure unique and all done within 24 hr with grace and charm by the owners cannot recommend you visit this shop highly enough if you want a personalised momento.
In short it rained most of the time we were there but we are already booking a return trip -- what a place beats all the other major cities I have been to into a cocked hat many times over!

Room Tip: ask for the uopgrade to superior if you can -- just gives a bit more space.

Excellent and helpful reception staff very warm clean and comfortable room ideal situation. Only had b & b but breakfast was good. Could have done without some of the music played at breakfast seemed like some young members of staff own choice

Excellent location in the city centre near to restaurants and bars. Very helpful and friendly staff. Lovely original Art Deco building. There was nothing negative to say about our stay. Would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 4th floor facing the square

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was a well located hotel with a nice bar next door and a good breakfast and lunch place over the road - Cafe Paris. The check in and out was very swift and the concierge were helpful. We didn't eat there or use the bar so I can't comment. The room was an ok size and the bed was comfy. The water smelt of sulphur but I'm unsure whether this is restricted just to this hotel. There weren't any drawers for clothes just 3 little shelves in the wardrobe. The only other minor gripe was the noise the 1st evening from the bar next door as we were on the 1st floor. I couldn't sleep even with ear plugs..... Good hotel though

Room Tip: Avoid 1st floor

Hotel Borg is in the perfect location in Reykjavik, a great place to start a self-walk through the city's main sights. We had lots of questions for the reception staff (directions, restaurant recommendations, parking suggestions, etc), and they were patient and helpful each time. Thank you for a great stay!
