Owner description: Volcano House is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the heart of Reykjavik. This is the place where one can learn about the Icelandic volcanoes by watching high quality film that were created for the Volcano House. Moreover, there is a great lava stones collection, souvenir shop and the collection of arts from famous Icelandic artists. We pride ourselves with of our multilingual staff many of whom have studied geology and so can add to the understanding of our customers.

“Interesting”

Lovely cafe & interesting film. Also has a mini museum where you can touch different types of volcanic rock. Truly fascinating how the locals deal with living in such as active area, just get on with it.

“A good café and rock collection.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

This is a lovely little place near the harbour.
The places serves as both a café and a rock museum.
Entrance to the rocks collection is free and the rocks are very beautiful to look at (and feel, too).
There's also a possibility to have a nice drink and snack there.
The movies feature (which we opted not to try) includes 2 documentaries about major erruptions from recent history (a total of 60 minutes). The movies cost apx. 18US$ and there's a 20% discount for Reykjavik card holders.

“What a brilliant informative show”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

As a group of 11 people from the age of 8 up to 69 we all thoroughly enjoyed these two movies showing the devastation but also the determination of mankind when we have to come together to rebuild. Well worth a visit.
