“Clean, modern hotel close to the centre”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

We were originally booked into the Best Western Hotel in Reykjavik, but on arrival we were told they were full, so we were then moved to the Hotel Klettur.
We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was more central, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and tidy, and big enough for our 3 night city break. Continental breakfast was included, of which there was plenty of choice. Hot drinks and juice were free flowing.
We would book this hotel again if we returned to Iceland, which we intend to do in the future.

Nice clean hotel, staff very nice, knowledgeable and friendly. Great location handy for old town, bus station, shops and bars. Happy hour limited choice but good value. Excellent continental breakfast we couldn't fault it and queue at toasters caused by people preparing toast for 6 or 8 people at once rather thoughtless but then...kind of par for the course these days with certain nationalities. One con in room need for more electrical outlets for charging etc of electronic devices a bar extension would do the job.. There is a construction site next door we were on 2nd floor and did not find it particularly noisy. To us poorly served in our home country Wi-fi good but needs to be extended to rooms. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Hotel was hot but this is relative to your own way of life we live in Highlands of Scotland and do not have a 25+degrees super-heated home so temp is relative..

Dear JW2507

Thank you so much for your stay in hotel Klettur.
We really appreciate your great review and very glad that you will recommend us.
Good to hear that the construction site did not bother you. Reykjavik is a growing city and these sites are pretty common in the town area, luckily that is just for short period of time.
We can gladly inform you that we have now wireless network in all rooms in Klettur for free so next time you can enjoy wireless everywhere in the hotel. :)
Good to know you enjoyed the temperature in the rooms apparently we are a like in that way that Icelanders intend to heat their apartment maybe to much as well, since we know how cold it can get when it is freezing outside. :)

Hope to welcome you again here in Iceland :)
Best Regards Klara

Pros: efficiently run, helpful, courteous and knowledgeable staff at reception, clean tidy rooms, decent breakfast selection, central location.
Cons: next to a building site with workers starting bang on 8am each morning, poor wi-fi, flimsy walls that don't screen noise from nearby rooms very well, heating controls didn't seem to work well as our room was often too hot despite turning the control down.

Dear Tim B

Thank you for your stay and your review on hotel Klettur.
Glad you liked our staff, rooms, breakfast and location. :)
Unfortunately there is some constructions going on in the neighborhood of Klettur which will be over in few months sorry that this caused inconvenience for you. They are building an apartment building very quickly and will very soon turn to the inside of the building. Reykjavík is a growing city with many construction sites all around the city .

Concerning the heating we Icelanders intend to heat up our houses sometimes maybe to much. It is just so cozy to get inside and enjoy the warmness after a cold day outside. We do have floor heating in most of our rooms and it takes some time for the heat changes to catch up in the cold.

We hope to see you again in Iceland
Best Regards Klara

Hotel Klettur is a new hotel in a good central location. It is clean, good value and comes with breakfast. The rooms are average size for a city hotel. The central location is important as there is no evening restaurant here.

Considering this hotel has been built in the last few years there have been some glaring mistakes in the room design. For starters there is no in room wifi, free or otherwise. This is quite a downside for me. Also there are no next to bed power sockets for charging phones. This I also found to be bad design.

Otherwise as a room to sleep in, this hotel is a good value choice.

Dear jpsinclair

Thank you for your review and your stay in hotel Klettur.
Glad you liked the location in the city center.
Regarding the wifi in rooms: When Klettur was built, we decided to put wired wifi in all the rooms and the reason for that was wireless network can become very slow when many are using at the same time. But now since everyone is up do date with newest technology :) we can happily inform you that we decided to put wireless network in all rooms in Klettur hotel and it is up and running now and of course free of charge!! :)
Regarding the sockets in the rooms unfortunately there are very few rooms which were designed like that but we tried to put the sockets as close to bed as possible.
We hope to see you again in Iceland :)

We chose Hotel Klettur for its (relatively) reasonable price, and had two rooms for three nights during February 2014.

The rooms were okay - not spacious, but comfortable enough. There wasn't much difference between the superior room and the basic - ours had coffee making facilities and a litte more space.

As many people have said, and the hotel is beside a building site. This did not disturb us too much, however, and it has excellent free parking. (We had worked out that with the cost of transfers from the airport for four of us, and wanting to do the 'golden circle' that hiring a car would be economical, and it was.)

The staff were nice enough, and there was bar.

The downside:
- very poor internet, slow and only available in the lobby
- poor breakfast, stupidly organised, with a queue for coffee and toast (the only hot items to be had)

A fine place, but I'm confused by all the 5/5 reviews here. It's just not that good.

Dear ManorRoad

We are very sorry to hear that Klettur hotel was not like you expected it to be.
Regarding the queue in breakfast time is probably caused by many people/groups leaving at the same time unfortunately that must have been one of the few days when we have large groups since this is not very common in Klettur. Glad that you liked the staff and the bar.

We hope to see you again in Iceland :)

This is a great hotel to stay in whilst in Reykjavik. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, warm and well appointed. Staff are friendly and breakfast is great. It has a minimalist style which is a reflection of its efficiency and good service. A great place to stay of you are planning a trip around the country or simply seeing Reykjavik.

If the quality of fruit juice at breakfast was the only criterion to judge a hotel by, the Klettur would score zero. The rest of the breakfast was minimalist too, in keeping I suppose with the general ambiance of the hotel. We stayed two nights, one at the beginning and one at the end of our trip. Our first room was quite spacious with a nice 'wet room' shower and the bed was comfortable, but the room was not very warm. Hotel staff were not helpful in resolving this - it was a 'feature' of the underfloor heating, it seems. On our second stay the room was smaller, but warmer, with a view of the derelict building site next door. There are no tea/coffeee facilities in the rooms, but you can buy 'machine vended' drinks in the bar downstairs. The plus point for the hotel is its location, only a few minutes walk from the cente of town. There is a huge choice of eateries on the road which runs down from the bus station, and prices were reasonable, whilst portions (as seems usual in Iceland) were huge. I have never had to resort to a 'doggy bag' before to take the surplus away for a picnic next day! There are numerous other restaurants at the harbour, about 15 - 20 minutes walk from the hotel.
A tip for people returning hire cars to Keflavik airport - there is no service station at the airport. Take a turn off the main road into Keflavik town before reaching the airport turn.

Room Tip: Room 205 was quite cool and we were not able to adjust the heat.
