We took an evening tour of part of the Golden Circle starting from Reykjavik and taking in the site where the North American and European plates can clearly be seen, the Gullfoss waterfall and gorge and Gaysir, amongst other scenes. This was the shorter journey that still took more than 5 hours during which the guide, a youngish woman who turned out to be German, commendably managed to keep up with an interesting, diverse commentary on many things Icelandic as well as more specific to where we actually were. Sh was also the driver of the minibus that we used - comfortable enough.
We chose this late time to avoid most of the other tourists and their coaches - the cafe at Gullfoss staying open especially for us (with some encouragement).
Generally very interesting though such a long journey through essentially barren countryside inevitably becomes a tad repetitive, ending as it did around around midnight thirty. Good value though and a very good guide.
Pick-ups from cruise ship / hotels was all part of the service. The tour company operates from opposute the Reykjavik Opera House.
