We booked a package break to Reykjavik which included 3 nights at the Grand. This is a lovely, modern hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. I saw a review that the rooms were a little small - not my experience, in fact quite the opposite although this could relate to whether they were in the old or new part of the hotel as it was extended. The only reason this isn't a 5 star rating is location. It's a brisk 20 minute walk via the direct route into the town centre (the scenic route via the coast is reported to be double that but despite our best intentions the sea spray onto the coastal path made that a non-starter!). Cabs are readily available and the reception staff are only to happy to call one for you but it adds to the cost and this is one expensive town! We will go back to Iceland as the gods conspired to bring down cloud which prevented us seeing the Northern Lights and we will stay at the Grand again.
