The hotel location is just OK. The walk to the waterfront is doable if you have an hour to spare unless the weather is bad which in Iceland can be at any time. There is some type of club/rave located immediately next to the hotel which plays music until well after midnight that is so loud, you can actually feel the bass in the hotel. People mention that the hotel is modern, but that is just the lobby. Our room, which was large, hasn't been updated since the late 70s/early 80s and everything was covered in disco orange Our sink leaked underneath but at least the water pressure in the shower was good. The floor to ceiling hallway windows on our floor also leaked and there were towels on all the windowsills to soak up the water which probably explained why the carpeting was so stained. While the employees are nice in general, one night after exploring for 10 hours we were exhausted and all we wanted was to order food and have it delivered to the hotel. We asked the person at the desk for some information, and they said they weren't allowed to help us because there is a restaurant in the hotel and that would be helping the competition. While said in a polite fashion, it was obviously not helpful. Iceland is extremely expensive and it's hard to find a good deal but if you can spend a little more do it and avoid this place.

Room Tip: Choose a room at another hotel!

The hotel rooms need renovation, they appear as old and worn. Worst of all, they were not clean. Stains everywhere, and the lamp had bloody bushes with finger marks. Stay away! There are guaranteed other hotels that deserve your money.

Centrally located so tour buses can pick up and drop off right from the hotel. Wish they would accommodate early check-Ins. Walking distance to a couple restaurants. But they do have a bar and restaurant on site which is convenient.

The hotel was very clean and tidy, it was a decent sized room with 2 single beds in that we pushed together as we ordered a double room. The hotel had in room heating which was very much needed especially as the temperature outside was in the minus’s.
Food and drink in the hotel was expensive but no more expensive than eating out in Iceland. The breakfast had a good choice of fruit, cold meats and cheeses as well as a cooked selection.
All in all was a good stay and would recommend.

We stayed 3 nights at hotel Island in June 2018 and we are quite happy with our stay.Clean, nice room, good breakfast, friendly staff, nice spa, quiet nights, ok location. We have no problems recommending this hotel to
people planning to visit Reykjavik, Iceland.
